I'm just curious how many hours of sleep your 2 year olds are getting per night and how long of a nap they take as well. My DS has starting having night terrors (if you've never heard of them - the child starts screaming in the middle of the night while asleep... it's very disturbing and is sometimes linked to an overtired child). Anyway, we have really tried scrutinizing his sleep schedule and trying to see what's the norm for most children. We haven't changed anything recently, in fact his sister is doing just fine. We have noticed that on the nights we are experiencing the night terrors he has been at daycare during the day. He takes a nap there as well but he is such an active little boy that he is just pooped by the end of the day. A typical day that includes daycare for him is:

    Up at 7:15am
Down for nap around 12:30 which lasts about 1 1/2 hours
    Bedtime: 8:00 pm

I would love to push his bedtime even earlier, but both DH and I work and I'm not walking in the door til close to six let alone getting dinner started, bath etc.

Before we took the kiddos to daycare he used to sleep from 8:30pm - 8:00am. So I thought we had made enough of an adjustment to get him up earlier.

Well that was a whole lot of rambling for a basic question... thanks for bearing with me!! ;)

Mine go to sleep at 7:30pm and sleep until 7-8:00am. They both go down for a nap around 12:15 and Emilie is up between 2-2:30 and Trevor sleeps until around 3-3:30.

They are put in bed (they may not fall asleep right away) between 7 and 8.
They are put in their cribs for nap around 12:30 and get up anywhere from 3:30 to 5 depending on when they fall asleep, etc. Usually at least 3.5 hours of sleep
They anywhere between 6:30 and 7 but we don't get them out of their cribs until at least 7.

So I guess they sleep about 10 to 12 hours a night and nap usually 3.5 hours

Our girls are 2 months shy of turning 2 years old but thought I would answer your question anyway. Especially considering one of my DD's sounds like your DS.

    This is their schedule:

    6:45-7:00am'ish - wake up
    12:30pm - nap (anywhere from 1.5-3 hours)
    7:00pm - bedtime

They are also extremely tired after their days at daycare (2 days per week).

    Here's our schedule:

    Up between 6:30 and 7
Nap from 12:30 until 3-3:30 (actually, I normally wake them up after 2.5-3 hours because I always worry they're sleeping too much, but after reading about others' nap schedules here, I might try just letting them sleep)
Bedtime at 7:30 (but they often sing/talk until 8 or so)

Mine go to bed between 8:00 and 8:30 and are awake anywhere from 7:00 to 8:00AM. IF they take a nap it is usually 2 to 3 hours. However, they haven't been taking their naps everyday, more like every other day.

    Wake between 7-8am
    Nap 12:30/1 until 3/3:30 and sometimes 4.
    Bedtime at 8pm

They don't seem as ready for bed if they get a longer nap. Since I am ready for them to be in bed by 8pm, I try to wake them at 3:30 if they aren't already up. This often results in grumpy kids. I don't know what is best.

Our schedule recently changed from 2 naps to 1 nap. This is what it looks like:

    6:30-7:00am - wake up
    1:30pm - nap (~2hours)
    7:30pm - bedtime

Our DS usually wakes up earlier than our DD and takes longer naps.

    about 12 1/2 hours :
    10 1/2 hours at night (8:30-7) - very consistant
2 hour nap (1-3) - times and nap length vary but 2 hours on average for their nap

    Wake between 8 and 9.
    Nap at 12:30-1
    Wake 2:30-3
I WISH I could get them to sleep by 8! Usually more like in bed at 9 and asleep by 10. But that's me seated in the rocker in their room to make sure they stay in bed and go to sleep. Otherwise they're up and playing, jumping, giggling and tearing their diapers off.
Some days they don't get a nap, so I bump up their bedtime to about 8pm.

Mine are 29 months in 2 days. One of them naps very little or not at all at home, but at daycare they both nap well. The other one naps about 1.5 hours at home.

    7:00am wakeup
12:30pm nap (usually around 2 hours)
    7:45pm bedtime

My kids sleep roughly 11 hours a day

They wake up most mornings about 5.40am
    Nap - 1-3
    Bed - 7/7.30

I found if i put my kids down earlier they sleep longer and if i put the down later they sleep shorter! Jack has had a couple of night terrors aswell. Very scary things when they are screaming but you cant wake them up. Mine still wake up occasionly during the night too, along with getting up at 5.40 can make for a couple of very grumpy toddlers! x
