My coworker seems to think I feed my babies to much and they are to big I was just curious how big your 2 month olds are and how much they eat...

My DS is 12 lb and eats about 5-7 oz every 3 hours and my DD is 10lb and eats 4-6 oz every 3 hours

Oh and do you count the oz of formula by the amount of water or the amount after the formula is mixed in?

Our babies are like a week apart!! :woohoo: Mine go for their official 2 month check the 15th - however, they are both around 11 lbs (using the home scale) and eat about 5 oz every three hours. I measure ounces after I mix the formula and pour it into the bottles (we do a pitcher each night - SO SO much easier)

Edited to add: I'd tell your coworker to MYOB. People are such know-it-alls.

Clayton was 11lbs, 13oz at 2 months (started out at 7#7.) Strictly breastfed.

At their two month check up they weighed in at 12.5 lbs and 13 lbs. They've been eating 4-5 oz every 1.5 hr when they're awake and go about 2-3 hrs when napping.

I say, feed them when their hungry. Babies grow soo much during their first months that I don't think it's possible to over-feed. I heard after 6 months it's possible to feed them too much. Then again, I am a new mom, what do I know other than what I've [heard or read] ^_^

And I count the Oz's after the formula is mixed up.

Mine are exclusively BF so they *should* only be taking what they need...dd is 9 lbs, ds is almost 11 lbs. I agree with pp...tell your coworkers to mind their own business. It makes me crazy when people have canned advice for how babies should be...especially when I look at how different my two are from each other. Every baby is different. If your ped thinks they are gaining well, don't listen to anyone else. My thought is that once they become mobile, they'll be burning tons of calories and you'll be happy that they have their chubby baby rolls (which my ped said is a goal).

yeah I thought that same thing babies know how much they need to eat or so my ped told me. But she insists they eat way to much as he grandkids none of them ever ate more than 6-7 oz at a time even at 1-2 years old.......she said she asked around and everyone agrees they eat way to much.......but my neighbor had a baby 2 days before mine and her's eats about the same and my friend who had a baby 2 weeks after mine eats about the same so I told her maybe they were starving her grandbabies LOL

WHen my two had bottles (6+ months) they'd eat 3 oz maximum. All babies are different and there is no right or wrong answer. I would just grin and thank her for the 'advice.' (and probably walk away)

I looked back in my baby books...when Sophia was born she was 5 lbs 9oz and at 2 months, she was 10.5 lbs. At birth Luke was 5lbs 14oz and at 2 months he was 10lbs 8oz.

I really don't think your babies are overfed! Babies are usually pretty good at letting you know when they are hungry or not. Keep up the good work, Momma!

My babies are on the exact same curve as yours -- Connor was 7 lbs, 3 oz at birth (37 weeks) and weighed 12 lbs, 15 oz at his 2 month check this past Monday. Caroline was 6 lbs, 1 oz at birth and weighed 11 lbs, 1 oz on Monday. Both take 4-7 ounces of either BM or formula at each feeding (we start with a 4 oz bottle and keep giving them an additional ounce until they're done). Every baby is different -- my singleton (7 lbs, 8 oz born at 41 weeks) would only take 3-4 ounces until she was ~5 months old and then she went up to 6 oz.

So -- yay for our chubby babies and boo to know-it-alls!

Isabelle at just over the 2 month mark weighed 6.205 kg (13.6 lb) and Mikayla weighed 6.160 (13.5 lb) so yours aren't too bad at all. I got my mum quizing me as to me feeding them too much so over a week I wrote down how much they had and it worked out to be 100ml - 200ml (3oz - 6oz) less then adviced each day so mine don't over eat they are just big babies. My boys were the same and are now very skinny kids so tell your co worker you aren't over feeding your child and to mind their own bussiness, you are doing a great job.

Mine gained a lot really fast and they were only eating 3-4 oz until they hit 3 months. At birth they were 5'8 and 5'14 and at 2 months they were 10'10 and 11'15. Babies take what they need and will gain what they are supposed to.

First of all - don't listen to what other people think. The only "of importance" advice should be your childrens' doctor, your spouse, and you.

That said, my twins are 8 weeks old - my dd is 10.5 pounds and eats 5 ounces every3-4 hours. My ds is 8.5 pounds and east 2.5 ounces every whenever (usually every 5-6 hours). He can't tolerate much more and he sleeps all the time.

I agree w/the pp that your co-worker needs to MHOB. :p

At 2 months, my daughter was just over 13 lbs (big girl!) and my son was just over 11lbs. They ate every 2.5-3 hours, and each bottle was 4oz. My girl is definitely a little chunker, but I'm fairly sure this is genetic because her weights correspond with mine perfectly when I was a baby. Thankfully I stretched out by the time I was a year old, so hoping she'll do the same.
I wouldn't worry about the co-workers. Each baby is an individual, and they'll eat what they need. Its amazing isn't it, that everyone always seems to think they are entitled to give their opinion on your babies, regardless of their experience, or whether they were even asked.
Yeah, I can never figure out if you're supposed to count the amount of water, or the amount of formula it makes. I decided to just count the water before the formula is added.

Ummm... according to your ticker your babies are almost 3.5 months old ... need some sleep??? You cannot overfeed your babies. You CAN underfeed them. You are doing a great job (even if you don't know how old your babies are now  ). Keep feeding them.

At their 2 month appointment mine were both 10 pounds exactly up from 4 lbs, 14 ozs and 5 lbs, 9 ozs. They eat every 31/2 hours or so, except for at night and get between 4 and 5 and 1/2 ounces.

I would also ignore your coworker. If your babies need to eat that amount, then that´s just fine. The bigger they are, the more they need. At 2 months, mine weighed the same as yours. DS weighed 12.6 lbs and DD 10.4 lbs. Mine ate every 3.5 - 4 hours (they still eat every 4 hours now) and were eating about 4oz. It sounds like yours are right on track! :D
