    Hello,

I am wondering how much everyone pays their babysitters? I have 7.5 month old girls and I am going to start having a college student babysit for them every now and then during the day so I can run errands. I live in Southern New Jersey outside of Philadelphia. Also, they sleep through the night and go down by 6:30pm, so if we had her come over after they are asleep can I pay her less for those times??

    Thanks for your advice!

I live up in central Pa so the cost of living is a little less here I'm assuming. Anyways, my girls are a little older then yours but we have always paid our babysitters between 8-10 dollars an hour. That might be a little high but thats what I am willing to pay someone to take care of our kids. HTH.

I also pay between 8 and 10 dollars an hour. That was to watch 3 children. 9,4 and 2. I might have to up the price to have someone watch 5 kids. I might have to get 2 sitters at a time to watch all of them.
I also don't think it really matters if they are sleeping or not i would pay the same price. But I would sit down and talk to her about how much she is looking to make and go from there. Just find an amount that works for both of you. You might be surprised at when she asked for. it could be less then what you are thinking thats why i would ask her first instead of saying what you will pay her.

We live in northern NJ and we had a babysitter come in to watch our twins so DH and i can have our date night. We pay her $10/hr. She comes after we put the kids to bed so she basically doesn't do anything. She's also a college student.

Hey there, here in Montana the COL is way lower than in the east, but I know standard here is 2 dollars per hour per kid (3 kids= $6) That is for daycare. Now for babies sitters we end up paying a little more, $3 a kid maybe. It is worth more to have someone come into my home rather than take them out. (PS I do daycare here) And now that we are having 5 I dont think Iwould ask anyone but family to help until my oldest is old enough to help out (and get paid for it). Hope this helps.

We pay $10 for evening hours, minimum 4 hours, after the kids go to bed (we didn't do baby sitting with the twins yet), but I don't plan on going any higher. My evening baby sitter never gets to see my daugther, she always sleeps. We're in the big city.

We are paying $10/hr here (Columbus, Ohio)too, a friend with twins is paying the same as well. So far she has just watched the twins, but we agreed on $12 if she as our older DD too. I agree w/ cbrown about asking her her rates - our sitter gave us a range of $5-10. I said the $10 though because I thought that was the fair, going rate & I wanted to make sure she WANTED to be here & would be here long term - needless to say she loves sitting for us & we never have trouble getting her [IMG]

    HI,

I'm in the BOston area and the going rate for this kind of work is btw $10 and 15 an hour - my sitter is $12 an hour.
