I wasn't a huge exerciser before I got pregnant, but I've been trying to do some walking since I was about 8 weeks along. I was too sick before that due to OHSS and a 5-day hospitalization. Anyway, DH and I walk about 1.5 miles a day. The doctor said this is fine. Should I be doing more? Did the rest of you exercise at this point in your pregnancy? How long were you able to continue? I'm 16 weeks right now.

    Thanks.

I have a gym membership at Golds in which I have to go twice a week or 8 times a month to get a discount. I keep that schedule. I may not go 'all out' as normal though. It all depends on how I feel. My membership ends a week after my official due date, so I am guessing I'll be bowing out early.

Does getting up from the couch and walking to the bathroom count as exercise?? If so, I exercise alot!

Seriously though, I wasn't a huge exerciser before, I probably got out once or twice a week for a brisk walk. Just go slow and listen to your body, don't overdo it. And enjoy it now while it lasts, b/c when you get to the end, you won't be able to walk at all!! I really started to slow down at about 28-30 weeks, and it's just been the last two that I've barely been able to do anything.

I did walking basically every day even at the end. I did take some time off in the beginning because I was sick but because I did walk, I only gained 29 lbs total. Good luck!

LOL.... me too! I can't even fathom exercising at this point, even just walking, but for the first 20 weeks or so my doctor recommended walking. It has many benefits and (in a healthy pregnancy) does not put any strain on your body.

the only exercise I m doing is walking around the house... I go out for only 2 or 3 days a week, and that is only to the supermarket.... just that much.... but that is too much for me as i can't breath properly after a little walk...
oh! I wanted to enjoy my pg... wanted to do a lot of walking.... to visit friends, to join yoga classes........but can't do anything
my doc has advised me even not to do cooking...my fav. hobby... :(

I generally walk either daily or every other day. I also take basic, gentle and prenatal yoga classes (really helps with pg pains) at a local yoga studio. I believe my routine really helps me feel better overall. Honestly, not working has helped me stay faithful to it. I believe if I was still working full-time I would be too tired to keep up an exercise regimen.

I don't. I was a fitness junkie before pregnancy--I ran marathons, did long bike rides, wakeboarded, snowboarded, etc. before I got pregnant. I ran my last marathon in February.

My RE put a stop to all of that (except the wakeboarding--which I did right up until the weekend before my IUI). He recommended that I cut back to no more than 40 minutes at a time, no more than 3 times per week, and to limit that to walking or swimming. He said that women who exercise more than that show much lower success rates with fertility treatments.

When I got pregnant, I was so sick, I could barely function, let alone run! My OB also said to limit to walking or swimming. I walk with my dogs every day, and that is the extent of my exercise. My OB is fine with it, I'm fine with it. There is plenty of time to run marathons the rest of my life. Now its just time to grow these babies!

I don't remember if I walked much in the beginning-I think we went for nightly strolls @ the neighborhood, but when 24 weeks kicked in with BHC-I was put on restriction and now I would love to go out for a walk, but can't even imagine-I feel like the babies can drop out at any moment-my belly is so big and heavy!

I think it is great that you and DH are walking! Keep up the good work, if you are feeling well enough to do it, then do it!
My OB told me to keep a lighter exercise schedule and that I should walk, swim or use the stationary bike. DH and I try to walk but it's not daily and it depends on how I am feeling (most days I am so wiped out, I'm lucky that I walk upstairs to the bathroom).

This is me to a T!!!!

I was so exhausted in the 1st trimester that I spent the whole 3 months either on the couch or in bed. I had about 6 good weeks in the 2nd trimester where I at least got out for a walk most days during the week...and then I just got too uncomfortable. Now I'm on modified bed rest so no exercise for me...not that I could even if I wanted to.

I love working out, it is a part of who I am. At 16 weeks I was told no more exercise, not even swimming. This was due to being 35, twins and baby b having marginal cord placement. I actually cried when my doctor's told me no working out. I walk my dog about .5 mile twice per day. We go slower and slower but he needs the exercise. On the weekends until about 2 weeks ago we would do a 2-3 mile walk in the morning with DH. About 2 weeks ago I hit a wall and was out of breath after the first half mile. What I have read is keep your HR low and stay hydrated. More than anything, although I didn't like it, I listened to my doctor's advice. I have only gained 23 lbs but my boys are 3.5 lbs each and doing great. I have low blood pressure and no isses, knock on wood. Do what makes you feel good. I miss working out but this forced sabatical will make next spring and summer all the more sweet as I get back to it.

i was very active before i got pregnant and when in the very beginning. but doc took me out of dance at 12 weeks, no more gym right after that. then "short distance" walks after that. all i was really allowed to do was prenatal swimming and SOME prenatal yoga. now that swimming is over, i stretch and do some arm strengthening excercises. i'm really bummed about it, because i was hoping i could excercise to the end, but...
