I know this shouldn't matter but I am getting so frustrated with everyone saying how little my boys are. ALL of my girlfriends have singletons and they are constantly bragging about how BIG their babies are. Mine look perfectly proportioned to me, but one of my friends said "they look too small to be walking, it doesn't look right." They are 21lbs and very lean with barely any pudge, and they are 31 inches long. I know that they are smaller for their age but I guess I'm curious as to HOW small they are. How much did everyone else's twins way at this age?

Sometimes I get so irritated I want to say "they may be smaller, but they are WAY cuter!" I know evil mommy. ;)

At 12m Nick was 19 pounds and Joe was 18. Now, at 26m, nick is 24 pounds and Joe is 23.

It used to annoy me when people would dote over them in public and then ask if they were half their own age. This still happens, but now they can speak for themselves and they say, "I two. I big boy" to strangers...the look on the strangers' faces after they just asked if they were 12-month olds is payment enough. ;)

eta: it does continue to HIGHLY irritate me when people ask if they were premature, as if that is any of their business.

I know exactly how you feel. At 1 year my guys were 17lbs and 19lbs. Although they are still tiny at 2.5 - they seem to really be catching up to other kids their age.

Your boys are 21 lbs and your friends think they are small? Wow -- my kids (save 1) have all been skinny -- under the 5 percentile and always under 20 lbs at 1 year old. I wouldn't let it bother you; most people are really unable to judge how big or small a particular child should be; commenting on his size is just their way of making conversation.

I must admit I make comments on how big my friends children are because when I hold their kids compared to my own, theirs are just so SOLID, you know? And vice versa.

There's nothing wrong with having skinnier kids. I figure it's in their genes the same way their hair color and eye color are.

Katelyn is 23lbs and Madelyn is 20lbs -
Madelyn eats like a champ and even though her face a bit round now, she still looks slender. Pedi said she just has a great metabolism.
Katelyn is picky and eats a lot less but gains weight quicker.

Every kid is different. Everyone tells me that if Madelyn's metabolism carries on this way - she'll be grateful when she's a teenager - LOL! Madelyn definitely looks smaller.

It's okay if the boys are smaller - EMBRACE IT - with time as they get older they'll catch up to other kids and if they don't - it's okay - there's a lot of "petite" kids and adults. Don't let it bother you. :D

They were 19.4 and 21 lbs at a year and at 19 months they are 20.4 and 22 lbs. They are right on the charts but they are not huge by any stretch. They are height wise the same size of most of their peers but weight wise they are about 5 - 10 lbs lighter.

21 lbs is a great size!!! It's about the 30th percentile for weight and 75th percentile for length. THat's probably why they say that. My kids (all 4) ar ethe same way.

My dd was 18lbs/ ds was 19lbs at 1 year. (She is 2.5 years old and is about 23 lbs.)

My 1st dd was about 19 lbs and ds #1 was about 20 lbs at 1 year.

Don't feel discouraged but I would be concerned about your friend's judgement. It sounds pretty poor to me. :D

At 1 year Emilie was 16 lbs. 14 oz and Trevor was 19 lbs. 10 oz.

My oldest DD who was 9 1/2 lbs at birth was only 20 lbs. 10 oz. at 1 year.

I think they are just fine, not every child needs to be at thte top of the percentiles. My DD's were both under 18 pounds and 31 inches at 12 months. I do remember one lady saying she was shocked to see such a little thing walking (Lily was walking at a year). But I haven't gotten a comment about their size in a really long time...that walking comment may have even been the last one.

Unless your doctor is worried, I would absolutely not worry.

I'd have to look it up for a precise number but I know they were skinnier than your boys because only one of them reached 20 pounds at 15 months (the other was very close, though). They have been and continue to be 5th percentile for weight and 50th for height.

At 12 months, David was 17 lbs and William 18 lbs, so my nuggets are even smaller! They don't seem that small, but they are. I try not to sweat it too much as I know that percentiles can change and a lot of it is genetics. My boys started out big (for twins) but now are little nuggets. it's ok, I still think they are adorable!

At 12 months, my grandsons were 20.3 and 21.3 pounds, and both were just 28" tall. Something like the 5th percentile for height but 50th percentile for weight although that might be a bit off. They were 6lbs 8oz and 6lbs 13oz at birth so not little.

At our 12 mo checkup, my twins were as tall as yours and way skinnier! See sig for the stats. I'm really long and lean, and so are my babies. They're doing great! Try not to worry. Society is so crazy, we want Michelin babies - and then we want them to grow up to be Kate Moss.

I totally know how you feel. My nephew is only 7 months old and weighs as much as the boys and is only a few inches shorter. All I hear about is how big Xavier is, what a great athlete he'll be...blah, blah, blah. I have a hard time blocking it out and get totally bothered by it all!!

Anyway, my boys only weighed a pound or two more than yours, but were shorter at 12 months than yours. I think you are right on track with your cutie pies!!!

at a year DD was about 16 lbs and DS just under 20 lbs...now at 2 DD is just 22 lbs and DS is 27 (just weighed on Monday)...I had a WalMart cashier ask me a month or so ago when DD's first birthday was....ok like a 1 year old can tell you "thank you" and walk out the door?

It's hard not to let the comments get to you but i also have to remind myself that I say other people's children are big too.

At one year, Jonas was 18lbs and 28in and Lucas was 17.5lbs and 28in (they're both under the 3rd% for weight and around 10% for height). They however have maintained on their own growth curve so the doc is not worried, so I try not to worry. I'm wondering if they are even near 20lbs now...we'll have our 15month check up at the end of the month so we'll see.

Everyone comments on how small my boys are but I just tell them that DH and I aren't large people (both of us are average height and weight) so why would our kids be any different. I also hate being asked if they're premature...why would you ask that?

    Anyway...yours sound fine.

Yours are much bigger then mine!

Ella was 19 lbs, 5 oz and Addison was 19 lbs even.

Why does bigger, mean healthier? That doesn't even make sense. It is annoying though and I totally understand your frustration!

I think so too! When DD started walking at 10 months, she looked like a 6mo baby walking around. It was so cute.

DD is now 19 months and still isn't 20lbs (19.5 a couple weeks ago). We like to call her Petite PetiteFleur ;)

Our Ped isn't concerned, but did draw blood work to make sure there wasn't anything going on with her metabolism, etc. She's fine.

Try not to let it get to you. People just make observations w/o thinking about it.

My girls are three and still "small" for thier age. At a year... They were both under 20lbs, even at a year adjusted under 20lbs. Now Annika weighs around 34lbs and Natty is around 30lbs. Some kids are just small.
My older two are also very small for their ages. As toddlers they were "normal." DD1 is almost 12 and doesn't even weigh 70lbs yet. DD2 is 8 and just around 46lbs. It's not like they are under fed or malnourished. Just lean, short and muscular.

My boys just had their 1 yr check up last week and both weighed 21lbs. And I think they're total chunks! Those comments that your friends make would probably irritate me too... I would say something like "Well their Dr. is really pleased with their weights and thinks they're PERFECT" just to shut them up. Some people just don't think before speaking.

They sound normal to me. At 12 months Katelyn was 22 lbs. and Blake was 23 lbs. They were both 30 inches long.
