I want to go shop for my babies but my DH says I need to wait until after my showers, I am going nuts with shopping fever! When did you start and what were the first things you bought?

i have only shopped for things that others can't buy me such as nursery decor, i know what i want and have it in my head so i know it when i see it type thing....i have also starting picking up diapers and wipes when i see them on sale but as for clothes, blankets, bottles, etc....i have not even looked at buying! those type items i will wait until after my showers because maybe i will get giftcards or they will be bought off the registry and no use spending our money if we don't have too! hope this helps!

Well I have a lot of family & friends that will be coming to my shower, however there's so much i need. ***EVERYTHING**** so I started buying a few things that I didn't place on my registry. So far I have bought 2 cribs, 2 bouncers, 2 crib bedding, 2 car seats, and several premie outfits & onesies. Trust me there still is alot I would like and need to have for these boys. I would start off buy things here and there. My next agenda is to start buying wipes and diapers.

I haven’t bought anything yet, but I think that’s because my neighbors twin boys just grew out of all their newborn stuff and she just brought over it to me… the only thing I have done for the twins is this Monday we start construction in there room… their room didn’t have a closet (it was my gym… bye bye gym) so we are have to construct a closet… I hate construction while I live in it…

I also wanted to buy a bunch of stuff and ended up getting a lot from friends who just had babies in the last year (although most of it is girl stuff and we don't know what we are having, so some of it may end of going back to them since some is REALLY girly). Anyway, we had our showers this past month while visiting family over X-mas and got a lot of stuff then too. As my sister told me, people LOVE to buy baby clothes. I didn't register for ANY, yet I really don't need anymore and I honestly didn't get that much stuff from my friends. It was mostly from the showers. I've also gotten a lot of stuff (like swings, bouncy chairs, etc.) from friends too, which helps the urge to go out and buy it.

I would seriously consider taking your desire/need to buy right now and put it into two areas. If you do this, you will get to your showers faster and yet also address your excitement.

First, the book Baby Bargains was awesome and it listed all the best stuff to get for babies through reader feedback. I read it from cover to cover. It is kind of like consumer reports. I outlined and "sticky-noted" a ton of pages. Then, I went online and registered for everything I could think of. I looked at the lists on these forums for what to buy and what to not buy, as well ask my friends and sister (who all just had babies within the last three years) what was a waste of money and what wasn't. I actually spent all of Thanksgiving weekend "shopping". It was super fun, but also some serious work! :)

The second thing I would do is put your energy into the babies' room. If you need furniture, then start window shopping for that. The Baby Bargains book has a whole chapter dedicated to furniture and altough I knew we were getting cribs from a cousin who had twins a few years ago, I still read it to see what they said about the kind I was getting from her. Once you get closer to the shower(s), you can start feeling out whether anyone plans to buy you furniture and if not, then get it yourself. My husband has been the painting king this week and has truly turned our babies' room into a babies' room, which it wasn't before. Once he is done painting and putting everything together, I am going to work on drapes. I borrowed a sewing machine from a friend and am going to buy some fabric so that I can make them, but even if you aren't the crafty type, you could still shop for drapes, lamps, and other room type stuff that may not be worth registering for because you want it to be exactly how you want it.

I know I am rambling, but I was also shocked to find out how much family and friends contributed either by donation or by gift. I just would not buy stuff until you have to. We live in AK and most of our IL family gave us gift cards. We don't have a Target up here, but I registered online with Target anyway and what I didn't get while I was home, I just bought online last week and am having it shipped up here. Honestly, we got enough gift cards that I got EVERYTHING left on our list. The last shower is next weekend and it is being thrown by my friends. I still have plenty to get and am registered for at Baby Depot, but I am resisting the urge to buy until that shower is over.

I also agree with an earlier post though to start buying diapers and wipes. We got $200 dollars in Costco gift cards that I know will just go to wipes and later diapers. (They don't carry the newborn diapers, so we will have to wait a while.) I know it will be when we are desparate for cash to buy diapers that those will be our saving grace.

Good luck and honestly get your hands on the latest edition of Baby Bargains. It was WELL-worth the $10 or so for all the advice.

I have begun buying here and there. I bought a couple bags of disposable diapers, but I am wanting to use cloth primarily. I figure I will use disposable when I send them with family or if I have to leave them at daycare, here and there. I am looking into my cloth diapers as I figure you can never get too many. I have some clothes that I have bought, but they were all for boys and so I am starting in on a few girl outfits. I always have 2 types of clothes for my children, including the babies... 1 dressy going out clothes and 2 at home, play, crawl, and roll clothes! You can never have too many sleepers and onsies so I have begun to invest in those, too. I have my stroller, and 1 car seat. I still need to buy another one and I am trying to match it closely (Car seat I purchased for my last pg that ended in m/c). We will be buying cribs, and cribsets, but will be waiting till later to purchase other large items. I say go for it. If you get extra- great and if you get double something you don't need you can always take one back. Gift cards can always be spent at a later time, or there will be something you see that you didn't think of before that you would like to have! Enjoy getting ready for your babies... it's a once in a lifetime thing to prepare for these children. It helps get you more in the spirit of having your babies too. It's a great mental and emotional boost!

I have not started yet as I am just barely 15 weeks. My magic number is to reach the 20 week mark, after my test results and detailed ultrasound, etc... so that i know the sexes of the babies.

I am really excited to do the nursery. I have been "window" shopping online and marking pages.

I know, I'm thinking the same thing!! I don't want to be too early, but I want to be prepared. I'm 22 weeks and
I just ordered a rocking chair and stroller stuff. Because the place said they take 6-8 weeks. I guess I'm going to
get stuff little by little. Save all your recipets! And happy shopping!!

I am nearing 28 weeks and the 1st shower will be in 2 weeks. My friends are planning to host a second shower but we shall see if that happens. I am not very dependent on the showers supplying all the essentials. I know what my mom has bought and what the in-laws are planning on purchasing so we are working on the other essentials little by little.

    So far I bought:

baby clothes - all on discount and most that were 50% off after christmas with some christmas gift cards I received. I admit I went a little crazy with that one but that is just preparing for the future because god knows I won't be rolling in it when they finally get here. I also bought 2 hospital go home/picture outfits for each of the kids.

1 crib and put the second on lay away (great price, in-laws are going to pay that off)
    1 crib mattress
    1 crib set
baby room accessories (i.e. night light, toys...)

1 twin pack 'n' play with the bassinets, (I know there will be those sleepless nights that the little ones will be parked in the bedroom for all night feeding and fussing... I am not delusional about what is to come... it is going to suck but it will be worth it :)

2 car seats from my mom

diapers and wipes (hitting up the sales)

We will pick up a few more items but now it is all about getting the nursery ready for the two little ones.

Like a lot of other people we received a lot of hand me downs for the twins, such as, furniture, swing, bouncy seat, activity mat, twin breast pump, bottles, clothes, clothes, and more clothes and some other stuff. So that helped out a lot. It is amazing how much stuff still remains on the essential list though...

I would just suggest buy what you feel you will need at the beginning, the essentials (things that you will not get from others) and sale items that you will need later ie diapers, wipes, clothes...

good luck and have fun shopping

I've had all of my baby showers - and I was SHOCKED at the amount of gifts we received. People honestly buy you twice as much. It was unbelievable! I know that you are anxious, but your DH is right. You will get so much at your shower. Wait and see what you need after that.

We've gotten so many outfits - tons of Newborn sized things, socks, toys, books, diapers, wipes, washcloths, hooded towels, burp cloths, lotions, wash and then all the big things we registered for. Out of the 55 things on my registry - all but 10 things have been purchased. I am blessed with very giving family and friends.

Before my showers - I bought things to decorate the nursery.

I have bought a used snap & go in a consignment store and I have been searching them for a crib to match the one that I have from my dd. I did find on ebay the identical crib bedding that I have from dd so I bought that as well. Other than that, I have just been looking alot! I really don't need a ton because we are having 2 more girls and I have alot from dd who is 3 &1/2.

I haven't bought a thing except a book about multiple pregnancies. Part of me is afraid to buy anything until I see the little ones on the ultrasound again as I am only a little over 13 weeks. I have this fear that there both not there! It's horrible feeling this way.

And I really don't plan on buying anything before the births except a few items since we already have a ton of baby gear. We even have two pack'n'plays, two bouncy seats, two baby carriers (one Baby Bjorn, one of another brand), etc. I've saved all the baby boy and baby girl clothes we have, so I don't have a good excuse to buy new stuff.

I will definitely need two new infant carseats and a new stroller that will hold a toddler and twins. . . I'm pinching my pennies so I can get the Valco Trimode Twin with the toddler seat!
