I am just curious on how many moms actually went into labor on their own? It seems pretty common that women are getting induced or having a scheduled c-section for various reasons (either because they make it to a certain point of 37-38 weeks or they have other issues with the babies/their health that require them to have the babies). Just wondering what my chances are even though I know every pregancy is different. Thought I would do kind of an informal poll...

With my 15 month old, Zoe, my membranes ruptured at midnight, went to the hospital as I knew that she would need to be born in next 24 hrs. My actual labour only started around 0500 and then she was born vaginally at 12:12 that afternoon. So no interventions necessary! She was born at 36 weeks. I am now 33 weeks with my B/G twins and I really hope that it happens the same way. I know that the chances are good that it may be a totally different ball game this time around!

With my first I went into labor on my own, 9 days late ... but it did happen. The contractions just picked up. With the twins I was induced b/c I made it until 38w2d. The induction was much smoother and faster, but it was also the second time around.

With my first I had to be induced - I was overdue...and with my second I went into spontanious labor 3.5 weeks early. You never know...With this pregnancy they plan to take the babies at 32 weeks, unless they need to sooner.

With my first two I went into labor on my own but they had to break my water with both because I was contracting but the membranes weren't breaking and with my second who was already 2 weeks late, they broke my water and gave me pitocin as things were not progressing. I am not sure what will happen this time.

#1 ptl, induced technically at 36 weeks (they just let me go into labor)
#2 water broke at 36 weeks born a couple hours later
#3&4 twins labor happened on its own (and fast) at 28 weeks.

I apparently was having contractions when I went into my scheduled c-section.

Curious, why are they taking your babies at 32 weeks??

Water broke at home at 38 weeks exactly. Was 7cm gone when they checked me at the hospital...I helped things along with a lot of exercise, evening primrose oil and time with DH ;) because I really didn't want to be induced.

I started having very light contractions at my baby shower at 3pm. By the end of my shower they were more intense (7pm). When I got to the hospital at 10pm the were still not that bad but I was 6 cm. dialated and they were born by c-section at 1:22am and 1:24am. It was a very quick process for us. BTW I was 34 weeks 5 days.

Well, I was scheduled to deliver at 38 weeks 1 day, but my babies had other plans! I went into labor and my water broke at 37 weeks aqnd 5 days! I had hoped that I would go into labor on my own and I did! The whole idea of going into the hospital to deliver without being in labor seemed odd to me!

last time around w/ ds I was leaking amniotic fluid at 35.4 weeks and they decided he needed to come out- so pitocin & cytotec for inducing-- it was rough.

hopefully, fingers tightly crossed, we'll be waiting for these two to go on their own- hopefully they make it to at least 34 weeks-- I am realllllly hoping not to have to be induced as every intervention messes with your own body's ability to labor naturally (pitocin disrupts your body's ability to cope w/ the pain, then you need the epidural which slows down or hinders the contractions, then you need more pitocin to even things out & on & on... but, that's my take from things I've been reading). oh- and if we make it to 37, 38... weeks and we're still not in labor, as long as we know the little ones are doing alright, we're not going to interfere.

wishing you a very healthy rest of your pregnancy & that you indeed get to go into spontaneous labor at a nice gestation.

I had been on bedrest for 2 days when my water broke at 3 AM. I was 33 weeks, 4 days. The boys were born that night around 7 by c-section.

I was scheduled for induction at 39 weeks 2 days obviously because they couldn't let me go much longer anyway but my water broke the day before induction but I did need Pitocin to move it along....they were too comfy in there!

ds...induces at 38wks due to high blood pressure & protein in urine (spent 3 days in hosp on meds b4 induction) used only PG gel.

ds #2....waters broke on their own at 38 wks and did not go inot labour myself, so they iduced me with pitocin (oWWWW)

I am currently almost 32 wks and am hoping to hold out, another 2 more weeks and i don't have to be flown out to a big hosp with nicu, after 34 weeks, my next goal will be my 36 week induction...not looking forward to more pitocin.

With Gregory I was in labor for 3 days before I made it to 3cm. The hospital broke my water and I never progressed past 6cm. Gregory got stuck. I got a fever and an emergency C-section. With the twins, I had a CS secheduled for 05/05/05. I thought that would be the COOLEST birthday!!! But they didn't think so... Zach broke his water at 35w2d and were born within 2 hours... 04/17/05. :)

I was induced at 38 weeks with my first due to pre-eclampsia, and had been in the hospital for a few days already.

My second I was induced at nearly 42 weeks because she didn't want to come out!

My third I was induced at 38 and 1/2 weeks because of health issues for myself, and honestly my OB seems to like predictability! (Especially during hockey season...)

My twin sister made it to her scheduled C-section at 38 and 3 with her twins.

I would love to go into labor and have a vaginal delivery. But, that doesn't seem the norm with twins.

I went into labour on my own with my daughter and the twins.

With the twins I had a schedules c-section for 38wks 1 day due to baby A being breech. My water broke the day before my scheduled c-section with no warning in the middle of the night.
I delivered them by c-section 4 hours after my water broke by c-section.

I had my waters break on Sunday Jan 20th, and was 4cm at 1030pm on Jan 21, and my son was delivered at 1147pm on Jan 21 and his sister Charlotte at 1220am on Jan 22. No induction, no drip, no ceasarean. Vaginal birth with drugs that didn't even have time to kick in before they were born. Very busy night!

I never got to go into labor naturally but it's definitely a goal in my next pregnancy. My mom had me at 44 weeks and my sister at 42 weeks so I think I'm just from a family who carries babies a little longer than other people. I had Dax at 41 weeks 6 days and he was doing just fine and could have easily stayed longer. My induction with the girls at 35.3 weeks was not successful because my body just wasn't ready yet.

Singleton babies tend to be born between 38-41 weeks so you may go into labor naturally yet. The reason so many twin pregnancies are induced early though is that the placenta/s can wear out earlier than with singletons so doctors like to have twins born earlier. Twins mature more rapidly in the womb as well so a 36 weeker twin will very rarely have any hospital time while a 36 weeker singleton usually will.

I went into natural labour at 28 weeks, spend two weeks in hospital where they managed to stop it. Then my doctor scheduled a c-section for the 5th may, because victoria was lying transverse and Athena breech. Then two weeks before the time, i again went into natural labour at 36 weeks and they were born by emergency c-section.

My water broke with my DD at 37w3d and she was born 11 hours later (vaginal). With my twins, at 31 weeks, I had a hard contraction and then started to bleed heavily. They were delivered by emergency c-section 2.5 hours later.

#1 on my own at 41 weeks
#2 on my own at 41 weeks
#3 on my own at 41 weeks (she was born at home with a midwife!)
#4 Inducing because baby failed the NST at 38 weeks (cord was wound pretty tight around her neck)
#5 Twins - on my own at 24 weeks and since baby A was transverse I needed a c/s

Thankfully, my water broke with both pregnancies; with dd1 I had a vag delivery & with the twins a c/s due to both being breech. With the twins I had a c/s scheduled for 38W2D- so, glad I didn't make that appointment!
    Good luck,

I had to be induced with DS1 three days after his due date. The twins just came on their own at a little before 34 weeks. The doctors tried to stop the contractions for a couple of day and finally at 34 weeks it was decided that it was time to let them come.

I'm so glad you posted this question, I think you and I are due right around the same time. I was just scheduled for 38 weeks exactly but I hope I'll go into labor on my own a couple days prior!
