How many weeks = no steroid shot?

My doctor is thinking about having me go in early (37 weeks) and do a c-section since my BP is rising and my swelling is getting worse. Will I need a steroid shot at 37 weeks? Does anyone know what is recommended?

 

I think it depends on your pregnancy & how you are progressing ~ I had the steroid shot I believe around 35 weeks & I delivered at 37.5 weeks (scheduled c/s).
My girls had no NICU time & their lungs looked great :good:
It wouldn't hurt to give our OB a quick call to ask if they think you will need the steroid shot or not ~

After 34 weeks the lungs should be developed. I got one (not two) the night before delivery. Their lungs were fine. My peri did not think I needed it but the neonatologist recommended it.

 

I don't know from experience, but I've heard that docs won't give steriod shots after 34 weeks. That they are developed at that time as much as the steroid shots would help anyway ... so giving them later wouldn't be beneficial. On another pregnancy site I saw between 34w and 34w6d was the cutoff.

I had my twins at 36w3d with no steriod shots, no NICU time, and their lungs were fine.

 

I think most doctors do not give the steroid shots after 34 weeks. I had mine around 33 weeks, I think, during a PTL scare. GL!
