How many sets of twins do some of you have?

I see on some of your signatures a few of you have more than one set of twins. How often does that happen? Are you more likely to have another set of twins if you already have one? Boy, I never thought that I could possibly have another set. WOW!!! That's amazing.

 

:sign0016: I only have one set but you are right, there are quite a few people here with multiple sets of multiples! Hopefully they will weigh-in here.

I notice your siggy says #3 and #4 were born in 2004. Could that be a typo?

 

I believe you do have a greater chance of having twins again once you have them. We do have a few members who do have 2 sets of twins.

I have a set of triplets and two sets of twins. All three pregnancies were the result of in vitro.

 

I have two sets too. Wouldn't change a thing!

I spontaneously conceived two sets of identical girls although in this pregnancy one vanished by 12 weeks.

 

I did IVF with my first set and then got pregnant on our own (spontanious) with another set. Twins do not run in my family. But if you have the first set spontaniously, and fraternal, I think your odds are 20% that you could have another.

 

Mine are both conceived naturally and both sets are identical. They are the only children that we have. Makes me wonder what would happen if we tried again.

Wow I'm amazed! I decided not to get my tubes tied this time. Never thought of the possibility of conceiving twins again. Whew, that would be crazy. You ladies are amazing. Happy Mother's Day to all the twin mommies.

 

Your chances of having twins again depend on what type of twins you have. The tendency for a woman to drop two eggs (making fraternal twins) runs in families and the statistics are that after you have 1 set of fraternal twins, your chances of having twins again are 1 in 4 with each pregnancy.

On the other hand, if you have identical twins, where the egg splits, it is believed it is a random occurrence and your chances of having twins again are no higher than anyone else in the population, about 1 in 200.

Of course, as has been mentioned, twins are also common among those who choose fertility treatments or IVF.

 

Our Ob told us the odds for fraternal twins, non- IVF are 1.7% after you have one set then your odds of having fraternal twins again rises to 10%.

 

I just have the one set but I would love to do it again!

 

We have a 3 1/2 year old. 2 year old twins and are pregnant with twins again. These were spontaneous and pretty sure they are genetic, although I am adopted so we aren't for sure. The doctors say yes I never thought we would have twins twice!

 

This is my second twin pregnancy but the first set did not make it. Twins run in my extended family - we have about 5 sets total including me and my twin brother. My husband also happens to be a twin.

 

There is actually a mom who posts mostly in the triplets and large families forum that has 3 sets of twins. She had 6 kids from a previous marriage, and then had identical boys, a singleton girl, fraternal girls, and then identical girls.
