We just weaned the boys to formula only (they have been 50/50 for the past couple months). Around the same time they went from 1-2 poops a day to like 5 poops a day…is that common?

I guess my only concern is that maybe we aren't cleaning the bottles well enough and bacteria might be upsetting them.

or maybe this is just normal?

My thought is, Breastmilk is the perfect food. Their bodies know how to use it perfectly therefore theres not much to excrete....now that you've switched to formula, alot of it cant be digested the way breastmilk could so theres excess to eliminate. Make sense?
Twice the formula = now twice the poo!

Perhaps someone else will have a different thought but thats what my first guess would be.

Im guessing its normal b/c were doing the same thing over here. Tyler was BF up to 4-4.5 monhts and he was only pooping 1 maybe 2 times a day. Now its EVERY SINGLE DIAPER!!!!! He has a horrible diaper rash for it too!! I change him the moment he poops but still has a rash.

    Good Luck!!!!

As E&Msmom said, it's because they can utilize pretty much all of breastmilk, but with formula there is more excess that they can't digest and so it goes right through them. It also may settle down once they get used to the formula more!

I find that every time I change formulas their bowel movements temporarily increase.

My girls have been on formula since they were born (6 weeks ago), and the first two weeks they had TONS of poop. Now, it's only 1 or 2 poops a day for each girl.

My girls have been on prebiotic milk since they were 2wks old and i have one girl that goes with every feed religiously and the other girl goes once a day if were lucky so it really does vary but i'm guessing the change of milk is the culprit not how your sterilising.

My boys were about 20BM/80Form since birth and we went all formula at 4 months (due to lack of production). They were the poopiest kids until they turned a year and went to milk. I'm talking 6-10 poopy diapers EACH! After going to milk, we're back down to 3-4. DH has a quick metabolism and (I'm sure he'll love me telling you this) poops more than the average person. I think 3-4 is going to be our normal around here.

My boys are on formula and it's just one poop a day each. I sterilize all their bottle feed after each feeding. I guess you should see what your babies Ped has to say in this regard.

It could just be the change in diet, if so it will probably settle down eventually. Is the poop normal? If it were a bacteria problem, I would think they would have diarrhea, but if it's just more poop than usual then I would think it's fine.
