At 5 weeks we were offering 4 ounces every 3 hours and I think they usually left a little bit in the bottle. If we noticed they were finishing their bottles we would increase the amount.

As far as how many hours you can let them go at night, you should ask your pedi about that. I was told to wake mine every 3 hours for the first couple of weeks. I think by the 1 month check up (or it might have even been the 1 week check, I'm not sure) that we didn't have to wake them any more, but they still woke on their own for a long time. ;)

My Pedi told me if they are hungry and need to eat sooner than every two hours they are not getting enough. It sounds like your two are doing well and also starting to "get" night from day since they are going longer periods at night. If they want to eat more, give them more! Give them as much as they need, just be sure to burp them often to avoid big spit ups :)
Soon they will go every 4 hours during the day and longer periods at night. I remember my Pedi didn't want mine going longer than 5-6 hours at night without a feeding. But if I had to do it over again I think I would've just let them sleep! I hear now from many singleton moms that their babies are sleeping as long as 6-8 hours without a feeding in the night within 3 months of age.

ditto on this question!!!!!!! mine are 4.5 weeks and mine would sleepmuch longer than 3 hours at a time if I let them but the doctor says they can go no longer than 3-4 hours between feedings..

Mine were taking 4oz every 3 hrs during the day. At 5 weeks Nathaniel was sleeping his nights, doing 6-8 hrs, William was still eating one feeding at night at that age. I think they are doing great. The only baby I ever woke of my three was William because he was jaundiced and low birth weight. He was under 5lbs when we brought him home

I would say at this age 4 oz would be the maximum I would give. My rule of thumb after the first month is to let them sleep as long as they want btw feedings at night and feed them every 2-4 hours during the day. Some babies will take more one feeding and less at another feeding and it evens itself out in the end. They should be taking about 8 bottles a day or between 24-32 oz a day. Watch yourself getting into the trap of wanting them to finish every oz every time or sticking to an exact schedule. Learn to read their hungry cues as well as their full cues. Some babies will finish any size bottle because it is easier to suck from a bottle than from the breast, and the bottle will keep producing regardless of how the baby sucks. Not every fuss is a hungry fuss, either. I had posted an article yesterday talking exactly about this kind of thing and for some reason the mods thought it was a breastfeeding post and moved it :gah:

Breast-Fed Babies Know When to Say When; Cues, which bottle-fed infants don't learn, seem to help later on, study suggests

We also fed 4 oz every 3 hours at that age. If they consistently emptied their bottles, I would add an extra ounce & see how that went. As for sleeping at night, after the first month, I didn't wake them to eat at night, just fed them when they woke up. But, I had big, full term babies, with smaller or premature babies often doctors will say they need to be kept to a stricter schedule so I would check with your ped on that question.
