Every day, my boys want less and less milk. Weeks ago, they were taking 3 bottles averaging 20 oz. Now they take 3 bottles, and sometimes only 12-14 oz. They are just not interested. THey would rather be playing and just dont appear hungry for their bottle at times. Should I drop their 12:00 bottle. If so, then what would I give them between breakfast and lunch. They eat a good amount of solids at breakfast, lunch and dinner. They currently only get 1 snack and that is at 4:00 and it is yogurt. Here is my schedule

    7:30- bottle
    8:30- breakfast
    12:00- bottle
    1:30- lunch
    4:00- yogurt
    6:30- dinner
    8:00- bottle

Should I just continue to offer 3 bottles and let them drink 3/4 oz from it if they want.

I think the average 10 month old drinks 20-30 oz a day, but as long as they seem happy and well fed then I'd say it's fine. Are they getting any other fluids besides formula? If they drink a lot of juice or milk they might not be as thirsty for formula.

    Hi Nicole!

Are they on sippies at all? It was about 10 months when I wanted to pull my hair out over bottles also. I started offering sippies more, specifically the straw sippies, so they could sit up and drink, toss it to the side, and go on playing. I leave their sippies on the floor and they drink them throughout the day.

Also...does your ped recommend a year for going off of formula, or did you make the switch already? Mine recommends 9 months, and they like the milk better than the formula.

Another thought...they went off of the reflux meds, maybe that is still bothering them??(Don't ask me how I remember these things!)

My ped said a minimum of 16 oz of fluids a day at that age.

I would try to get the 16oz in them, and just focus on the food more, since it sounds like they are making the transition to being big boys and relying on the food more than the milk. :hug99: Juuuuust when you thought you had it figured out....

My guys drink about 3 formula bottles a day (18 oz) and one juice/water bottle (6 oz). I think though if your guys are not showing signs of wanting or needing it. I would not worry. :D

My guys drank 3 bottles a day of foruma at that age and I put 8 ounces in them each time. They didn't always finish the bottles though.

    Age: 7-12 Months
    Total Daily Amount: 20-30 Ounces
Number of Feedings per day: 3-4
    Amount per feeding: 5-8 ounces

It varies for us - but I would say that they drink between 16 and 22. Mia drinks less than Emma. I offer three seven ounce bottles. If Mia doesn't do well with the 7 and the 12 bottle I will give her a small one at snack time. This usually makes up for the lost morning ounces.

Trust me - I know how frustrating it can be when you can't get them to drink their bottles!

I think I remember my girls going through the exact same thing at that same time. The ped said as long as they are getting 16 oz a day it was fine. But honestly, there were some days where I was lucky if I could get them to drink 12 oz. They were also getting formula in other ways as well, with oatmeal, cereal, and sometimes I would give it to them cold with a snack although they didn't drink much of it. We were deffinately starting to focus more on solids. A really good way that I started getting them to that 16 oz amount was with cereal. I would put cheerios in a bowl and put the formula and let it sit for about 5 min before I would serve it to them. It would make the cereal mooshier as it would soak up a lot of the formula. Don't know if your twins still eat oatmeal or rice cereal but I usually would make one huge bowl for them to share and I found that I usually had to put in a good 6-8 oz of formula to get it to the right consistency so I knew they were getting it that way as well. At about a year when we switched to milk, I dropped the afternoon bottle as I noticed they weren't consistently drinking it. I now give them 1 8oz bottle in the am and 1 8 oz bottle at night. Here is what our eating schedule looks like:

6:00 wake up and 8 oz bottle
    7:30-8 breakfast
    11:30-12 lunch
2-2:30 snack, usually a sippy cup of juice or water and baby goldfish, fruit, puffs, bread with cream cheese or whatever
    4:30-5 dinner
    7:15 8 oz bottle
    7:30 bed for the night

my girls don't seem to need a morning snack. after b-fast they usually play for a while and then take a nap and then sometime after they wake up they will have lunch. I know my girls are a bit older than your babies but HTH.
