How many oz. a day?

I am sure that many of you know that we have been having bottle issues with one of our girls. Our Pedi keeps saying that they should be drinking minimum 20 oz. a day PLUS 3 meals and possibly a snack. Well - Mia isn't having any issues with her solids but she just doesn't want to drink. She is pretty small (15.6 at her 9 month appt.) I asked the pedi about dropping a bottle, since she has NO interest, but she said no.

We can usually get her to drink between 16 and 20 oz. a day. In the adding lunch post someone mentioned that their pedi wanted their kids to drink between 16 and 20 and I was excited because that means that she is ok.

So I am curious - how much do your 9, 10 or 11 month old kids get from their bottle a day. And not how much you offer them but how much they really drink.

Mine drink between 18-20 oz. a day. I too have a "little one", he was 15lbs 10 oz at our 9mo. appt. It seems he is always my "hard" guy to get to drink a bottle. My problem is getting him to stay still long enough to drink the whole thing. He is sooo "busy" these days and I think he will just drink what he has to in order to not feel hungry anymore (make any sense???). Same thing with the sippy cup. I try giving him formula from the cup and again same result. He is just busy, busy, busy   .

DS is all about the bottle, and DD is all about the solids. I offer them 4 bottles a day, all 8 oz bottles except the morning bottle when I'm lucky if I can get them to drink 4 ounces. The other three bottles DS usually finishes, and DD will leave 2 or 3 ounces, but sometimes finish a whole one, and sometimes we have to struggle to get half of it down. So DS gets about 26-28 ounces a day, and DD gets about 22-24 ounces a day. My pedi said that the least amount he would be comfortable with a day is 17 ounces, but then again she is a little on the chunky side (26&3/4 inches and 19lbs 12oz), so that amount might be based on her size. One thing that I have found that helps her is when she starts to get fussy and pushes the bottle away, I let her go about playing for about 15 minutes and offer it again. Usually she will drink another ounce or two. I don't think that helped much, but I know I was worried that DD wasn't getting enough formula also, so I understand how frustrated you are!! :hug99:

It is amazing for me to write this, since my kiddos were so small for the first 6 months, but my babies are on the bigger side. They are 20+ lbs. They eat about 24 oz a day. They also have three meals. I just can't figure out how to fit snacks in too, especially since my Mia has been puking up her bedtime bottle lately. (long story, if you haven't read, I have been posting about it). But my friends' son who is two weeks older, doesn't drink much either. My friend is constantly battling with him to drink bottles, but he is so busy that he has no interest. ANyway, this is a long answer to your question. BY the way, I've heard 20 oz for this age is good, so if she is eating close to 20, I think your Mia is fine. (Don't you just love that name? What is her middle name? and where are you from in Colorado? I used to live in Fort Colllins.)

Ok - I am not feeling as bad now. Everyone keeps telling me that she needs to eat - hello - you come over and try to feed her! We are having an ok day today - already 11 ounces and two more feeding to go.

Minnieinafrica - Her middle name is Catherine. When we found out we were having twin girl my husband and I decided that we would each name one of the babies. I picked the name Emma Maire and he chose Mia Catherine. He swears it has nothing to do with his high school crush on soccer star Mia Hamm but I know the truth :D I do like the name - and it seem to fir her perfectly! Right now we are living just outside Boulder. I have friends who went to school in Ft. Collins. Such a great city - I wish that there were more jobs up there, it would be a great place to live.

We were 21 and 22lbs at 9 months and my ped said that 16 oz plus their meals was enough for them, but that might have something to do with their weight. Right now we are struggling, especially with Jake, he doesn't want his bottles at all! But is still drinking pretty well out of a sippy. He is getting at least 20 oz and Emma is probably getting over 24 a day. Jake eats more food than her though.

The girls are offered an 8oz botle upon waking, 6 ozs (sippy) for lunch, 4ozs (sippy) for dinner and another 8ozs at bedtime. So that's 26ozs offered. HOWEVER, they never finish the mid-day cups, and usually leave an ounch or two in the bottles so I'd say they get about about 20ozs, plus three meals and snack.

My guys are 11 months and both about 19 pounds right now... but they have consistently drank 3 8 oz. bottles since 9 months. Once in awhile one will leave 2-3 oz.- so they are still getting about 22- 24 oz. per day and 2 meals and 2 snacks.
