How many of you were induced?

I'm starting to see a faint glimmer of light at the end of this pregnancy...but my ob thinks my babies will happily cook until they are evicted (38 weeks max according to her)! I'm so grateful for the complication-free (though certainly not misery-free!) pregnancy I'm having. I'm just wondering how many of you made it to 38 weeks, and ended up being induced? For those of you who were induced earlier...what were the reasons? I love getting advice for you who've already BDTD.

I was induced at 36w 3d because my pelvic pain was so bad I could not walk well at all. I told my OB on 4/4/06 that I may not beable to make the next appt because I may not be able to walk at all. And he said, "Hows Thursday?" I said that would be great! So Thursday 4/6/06 at 2:36pm and 2:41pm my twins were born.

I was not induced but had a planned section at 38wk1d. So I guess you could say I went the entire way! [IMG]

I was induced at 37 weeks & 5 days b/c of severe swelling. I tried to have them vaginally but after 12 hours & NO dilation~ the girls were born via C-section at 8:59 &9:00 pm.

I was induced at 38 1/2 weeks. Everything went well and the boys were born vaginally about 12 hours after we started.

    Good luck!

I had a scheduled c-section at 37w, 5 days. It turns out I was having contractions but didn't know it.

I wasn't induced, but I had a c-section at 39 weeks 1 day. My body was no where near going into labour, and my OB was going to let me go until the due date. My blood presure went up and would come down so they just took them.

I was induced at 38 weeks, but I swear these boys would have cooked till 40. I had an uncomplicated pregnancy with both babies vertex so we went for a vaginal birth. By about 6 hours I was dilated to 5cm, another 6 hours and I was at 8.5. I thought I was in the home stretch, and they told me to conserve my energy for pushing. Then...ugh, contractions weakened and no more dilation for the next 6 hours. The doctors called for a c-section because they were worried about infection and my contractions were no longer productive. Also, I started showing early signs of pre-eclampsia.

The boys were born via c-section, happy and healthy. That's all I could ask for, although I was somewhat disappointed and felt a little cheated out of the vaginal birth I had hoped for. It took a little while to get over this, but I eventually did.

Good luck with your induction--I hope all goes well! [IMG]

I was induced with both my pregnancies. Caitlin at 36/6 d/t low amniotic fluid and the twins at 37/2 after the removal of my cerclage. With both the oxytocin didn't do much until they ruptured the membranes, then it was showtime! Thanks goodness for epidurals! Despite it not being "natural" I preferred it to the uncertainty of starting labour - but then I'm a control freak.
    Good luck!

Thanks for all the stories. Back in the day when my mom had twins, they let her go all the way to 40 weeks. I'm just glad at least 38 weeks is my ob's cut-off!

I went in 37 weeks 1 day for induction due to pre-eclampsia (which started at 34 weeks). 14 hours later I was dilated and they wheeled me into the OR. My sweet little baby A was face up so with every contraction they tried to turn her...OUCH!!!! After 1.5 hours of pushing, I had a c-section.

I was induced at 38 weeks exactly. We went in at 7:30 AM, started pitocin at 8:30, had them at 7:33 & 7:56 PM vaginally. Couldn't have asked for a better experience. It was fantastic!

Oh My-- I was induced and it didn't work. I never knew that could happen. My doc said that God made me to carry babies. My mom was 2 weeks late with both my sister and I as well. I was induced at 38 weeks and then 2 days later, they took my little twinkies by c-section because I developed Preclampsia.

I was induced at 37 weeks and 5 days. The doc said I had preeclampsia, but the nurses said my blood pressure, etc was fine. I was swollen, but had been for a while with nothing said.

Anyway, pitocin started around 10:30am? (it's all a blur) and A was born at 8:11pm after episotomy (ouch-lots of tearing) and then B was born at 9:30pm with suction help. I tore and bled a lot, but I am proud that I was able to do it vaginally though. Hard recovery for me, about the same time as my friends with c-sections.

Good luck. Just remember whatever happens, happens. Be open and flexible, so you have healthy babies, which is the most important part.

I was induced at 34w6d b/c of pre-e. i was already 3-4 cm, 100% and +1 so it was a pretty easy decision -- my body was ready!

I was induced at 37 weeks. 38 weeks was the cut off...but at my 36 week appt the dr gave me the option of being induced at 37 (I also had a complication free pregnancy) or to wait 38. After spending the weekend thinking it over...lack of sleep & discomfort won out & opted for the early eviction. It was a smooth vaginal birth for both & the girls arrived in perfect condition. And we all went home the very next day!

Good job on your cooking! And congrats for almost being there!

The doctor was going to induce me at 38w 6d, but I was 80% effaced and a couple centimeters dialated for several weeks and kept thinking it would happen on its own. It never did. At 38w 4d I went to my dr. appt and they found I'd developed pre-eclampsia. I was sent straight over to the hospital to be induced. Not much happened for the first 5 or 6 hours I was on pitocin, but when they broke my water I dilated very quickly. About 13 hours after I was diagnosed with the preclampsia I had my two happy, healthy babies vaginally (at 38w 5d).

I was induced at 38w2d. My doc already told me she wouldn't let me go passed 38w. My due date was on a Saturday, right after Thanksgiving, and she was on call the Monday after, so that's when it was scheduled. Even though my oldest was late, at a certain point I didn't think I was going to make it. I started to dilate at 32 weeks (2 cm) and was 4 1/2 when I was induced. Once the induction started, my body took over completely, they had to turn off the Pitocin and things went very smoothly and fast (unlike my first). I pushed 5 times for my twin girl and my boy was born 4 minutes later by breech extraction. They were both close to 8 pounds.

The started the Pitocin at around 6 am, broke my waters at 8 am, I was fully dilated a little passed 10 am and at 10.32 and 10.36 am my twins were born.

Not me -- I went all the way to 39 weeks 5 days before they decided to make their entrance. (Not inducing was my decision. My OB said she didn't see any reason for it before 40 weeks other than my discomfort, and I was actually feeling pretty good. She wanted to "talk induction" at the appointment I had scheduled for my due date.)

I was very glad we didn't induce. My girls were small for 40 weekers (5 pounds 8 oz and 6 pounds 1 oz) and going all the way meant that they had no NICU time and were able to come home right away. We knew they were small from ultrasounds, but it turned out they were even smaller than we thought.

My water broke at 33 weeks and they gave me terbutuline to stop the contractions. The terbutuline worked really well, but then they decided I needed to have the babies "right away" to avoid infection, so I was also induced. I didn't mind the contractions on pitocin. It was actually pretty cool because I could feel each contraction opening my cervix more and within 90min.I had the girls! I never felt anything like that with normal contractions when I had my son.

I induced myself!!! My doc said we weren't going to induce labor but he wouldn't let me go past my due date of 40 weeks, which by 36 weeks I had had enough, so the day I turned 37 weeks I ate a ton of fresh pineapple (read about it inducing labor online) and the next day my water broke, and they were born at 37 weeks 2 days, happy and healthy! Labor didn't go well, though, they had to try Pitocin to move things along and after that and an epi after 27 hours I was only dialated to a 6 so they got those babies out via C-section.

At my 36 week appt we set an induction date for 38 weeks although my doc didn't think we'd make it. Then I spent the following two weeks trying to start things on my own. Pineapple, sex, long bumpy truck rides. You name it, we tried it. So on 8/21 I went in at 5:00am started pitocin at 7:00am and had Gracie's water broken at 7:30am. At 11:57 and 12:00 noon Gracie and Haley made their entrance, both with the help of the vacuum and some tearing. I quit having contractions once in the OR. So, Yes, I was induced at 38 weeks and had a pretty uneventful vaginal deliver. I think if I hadn't been induced, I might still be pregnant. [IMG]

I was induced at 36+3 due to the risk of toxemia. Prior to that I was in the hospital for 2 weeks bedrest, and the doctor felt confident that 36 weeks was enough cooking time for the girls. I imagine I would have gone to 38 weeks or longer, as I had no real signs of labor coming on yet. Everything turned out great, and now I have two perfect angels! Good luck to you, hope to hear your birth story.

I was induced right around 38 weeks. I was so glad, I couldn't have waited much longer. My babies weighed 7 lbs 9 oz & 7 lbs 13 oz [IMG], so I was glad to get them out of there! They were both born vaginally with baby B being a breech extraction. No complications other than that. Congratulations on an uncomplicated pregnancy. It won't be long now! [IMG]

I was induced at 38 weeks with the twins per regulation with the OB section here at Carson. They certainly werent planning on coming on their own I know that...other than some annoying braxton hicks I was healthy as an ox sadly...bp was normal through out, tests all normal, growth of twins identical...Heck i never even went to 2 week appointments until 34 weeks i think it was and never attended a weekly appointment at all. My OB said I was meant to carry multiples...haha...yeah tell that to my saggy skin now and bags under my eyes permanently!

Im glad you are having a easy twin pregnancy ( minus carrying the suckers around )
