twins are three months and so far i am have been trying to get them asleep before the 2 hour mark of being awake. now when they do sleep they only sleep for 30 minutes and are awake again and cranky. we fight back and forth all day until about 2 and they pass out for about 3 hours. do i need to switch to just 2 naps a day or are they too young? i just can't figure out why they will not nap longer like they used to.

    THANK YOU FOR ANY ADVICE!

Right now, we are napping about 3 times per day. Two longer naps in the afternoon (1-2 hrs) and a third nap about 45min. or so. A lot of days, DH has a hard time getting them to nap well. I really try to follow the 2hr. rule, with mine, it's more like 1.5 hrs. Also, I use a sound machine during their naps and I really think it makes a difference. It seems to soothe them some.

Not sure if that helps you or not, but that's where we're at.

I always gave them a 9-11 nap and a 1-3 nap. After their 3:30 bottle I put them in their swings and bouncy seats and let them watch sesame street. They usually dose off at some point which I consider their "Catnap". I didn't want to get in the habit of the 3rd nap in case we wanted to go out at that point. Plus, the 3rd nap is so short that I didn't want to carry them back up the steps again! They are so heavy and my back is killing me! LOL

I'm curious about this also. My guys are 4 months. They are in daycare, so I can't really control their naps. But they usually get a 1 hr nap between each of their five meals until bedtime. So we are definitely not on a 2 or 3 nap schedule. To Kelly: If your babies nap from 9-11, when are you feeding them? When is their first meal of the day? My guys are waking at 6am (and eating then). They'll eat again around 9am. All the books say eat, play, sleep. Just curious how that might work.

I always did the eat/play/sleep too. They usually ended up with 3 naps at that age (still do most days) and sometimes a 4th. I started my day at 7am and tried to have them in bed by 7pm, with a dream feed at 10pm. Their naps were usually at 8:30, 11:30, 2:30.

I'm also doing eat/play/sleep, although some days they skip the play. It's still not a reliable schedule. They always nap around 9 am, but usually only for an hour, then they'll nurse & go right back down usually for another 1-2 hours. The afternoon nap can be longer, up to 3 hours. But sometimes it's a "traveling" nap - in the car or stroller.

I guess it's about 3 naps a day unless one is too short & they go right back to sleep after nursing, then it's more like 4.

My boys get 3-4 naps at this point. The first two are usually the longest, the 3rd about an hour, and the fourth is usually just in the evening if we're holding them. We also do the eat/play/nap routine. Works great! Sort of the BabyWise method, but not completely. I'm not as strict, but I do sort of follow those guidelines.
