How many jars of baby food do your 9/10 month olds eat in a day?

So I think between the two of them they eat about a jar of veggies, a 1/3 of a jar of meat and a few tablespoons of yogurt. Is that too little? Should they be eating an entire jar each? I wonder if I'm underfeeding them and I'm not sure how to tell. I'm trying not to feed them too much because I want them to maintian 28oz of formula as suggested by the ped.

    Any advice, tips, input?

At that age, I believe they were eating a jar apiece per solid feeding (2 a day). In general- DD might not eat her whole jar but DS would. In the morning I would mix the fruit with baby oatmeal.
Our pedi told us to let them eat until they appear full/uninterested.

Ok I forgot to mention that they also eat about 1/2 a jar of fruit in the morning with their cereal and they spit a soft boiled egg yolk.

By then we were doing with Michael 2 jars, one fruit and veggie for each meal afternoon and evening meals, and for breakfast toast. He had a mouth full of teeth already.

Matthew got baby oatmeal for breakfast as he still didn't have atooth. And the afternoon and evening meals were the same.

Soon after I started adding in, soft dinner foods we ate.

I do my own foods - and our day looks something like this...

They tend to drink between 20 -24 oz of formula in four different bottles throughout the day - although I offer 28.

For breakfast this morning they shared a piece of wheat toast and a 1/2 a fresh peach.

For Lunch they shared a yo-baby yogurt and 1/2 cup of tofu.

For dinner they will split about a 1/2 cup of cooked cauliflower and about 4oz of rice cereal.

Wow! Thanks Ladies. I can see I'm giving them very little compared to most babies their age. I guess I will have to try to increase them.

Steph - how do you feed them the waffle? Do they just hold it and eat it or do you give it to them in bite size pieces?

Teri and Evanly - how do you do the toast? bite sized pieces or do they just hold it and chew?

At that age I think they had 2 meals a day -- they eat ate a jar of fruit in the morning, plus some yogurt and crackers, and a jar of veggies in the afternoon, plus some cheese and pasta or bread. We never fed them the jarred meats.

At any rate, as a PP said, I fed them (and still do) as much as they seemed to want. If they kept opening their mouths, I kept putting food in.

I was doing 5 jars of baby food a day...plus cereal. Now I am transitioning to table food, it is less overall. I thought 2.5 jars of food a day was too little for them.

My 9 month olds eat 4 sometimes 5 jars of Earthbest organic stage 2. Their 5 meals are as follows:

After waking- each have a bottle of 8 oz. formula
Breakfast - they share 5 oz. of oatmeal plus 2 oz. formula for each
Lunch - share one jar of veggie, one fruit, both stage 2, 4 oz. juice
Dinner - share one meat, one veggie, (sometimes one more fruit) some juice/formula
Before Bed- each 9 oz. bottle formula

We don't do snacks though, should I ????

Mine are on all table foods, so I can't give an estimate in number of jars they ate, but their serving sizes are much smaller than I think we have in our minds. Like 1-2 tablespoons of veggies, fruit, pasta, 1/4 slice of bread, 1/4 of an egg. I got a book called "Child of Mine: Feeding with Love and Good Sense" by Ellyn Satter and it really put my mind to ease on how much they were eating.

    Here's a typical day/amounts for my two:

Breakfast (around 7am) - share a Yo Baby yogurt and Cheerios, then 5-8 ounces in a bottle

Another bottle around 11am (5-8 ounces)

Lunch (around 1pm) - 1/4 to 1/2 cup mac & cheese between them, crackers, sippie with 2-4 ounces of formula

Another bottle around 3:30pm (5-8 ounces)

Dinner (6pm) - whatever we are having, tonight it was pot roast, potatoes, and carrots (about 1 tbsp of each). I usually give them an appetizer while I am getting dinner on the table, crackers with alouette cheese on them, puffs, cheese crackers, something like that. If they are really frantically hungry I top them off by splitting a yogurt or applesauce. I give them a sippy with 2-4 ounces of formula as well.

One of mine takes about 20 ounces a day and the other about 28. The one who takes more is way, way more active so they gain weight just about evenly.

    7pm - bottle (5-8 ounces)

Sometimes as many as 4 jars each but not always. They usually drink about 18 ounces of formula a day. We just went to their 9 mo. appt. and pedi had no problem with this and said nothing about 28 ounces. Sometimes they eat a little less than this and usually they do not eat anymore.

I watch for their cues when feeding. I'll feed them until they turn away. As soon as they turn their heads I know they have had enough.

FYI: Kate weighs 17.15 and Claire is 18.2.
