How many diapers?

We have a coupon for diapers at BRU for $4 off of each box of diapers. We can also get a $5 gift card if we buy two boxes. I'm on bedrest, and BRU is 3 hours away, so my mom is planning to go to for me. We are planning to CD eventually, but I've read that CD'ing works better when the babies are a bit bigger. Also, I think we will probably use disposables for when we are away from home. I was going to tell mom to get Pampers Swaddlers - one box NB and one box Size 1, but then my DH said maybe we need to buy a few more boxes if this is a good deal. I don't even know how many diapers we can expect to go through. What do you think? Is it a good deal? How many boxes and what sizes should we get? Please educate me. I feel so dumb about this stuff. Thanks.

brs has the most expensive diapers that I've found. if you have a sams club you will get the same if not better deal. don't buy more than 1 bx of nb since you never know how big your babes will be. pardon the lack of capitalization, typing one handed. :)

I didn't think about Sam's Club. I did just check online though. Sam's Club is the same distance as BRU. BRU has 216 ct, Pampers Swaddlers, size 1 for $35.99. Sam's has 216 ct, Pampers Swaddlers, size 1-2 for $34.86. I'm not sure what the difference is in the sizing though. Why does it all have to be so confusing?!

Just in terms of numbers, I recall that for the first couple of months we went through about 20 diapers a day . . . it really adds up! We planned diaper changes at each feeding (every 3 hours) and then there were always a few times a day when they'd poop right after you changed them (sometimes before you even got the new diaper quite on - there were times when one diaper change would go use up 3 diapers!)

You know, I remember my mom getting me those size 1-2 diapers from BJs, but I honestly can't remember if they were more like 1 or 2 . . . I'm sure someone else will be able to tell you that.

Just an FYI--amazon.com sells diapers with free shipping. I don't know how their pricing compares--we're planning to CD, so I haven't priced disposables, but you may want to check that out, particularly if you're still on bedrest!

Oh, and I've been told to plan on 10-12 diaper changes daily per baby at first.

Edited to add: I just checked Amazon's pricing on pampers swaddlers--a 216 ct. box of size 1-2 is $35.99
96 ct. box in the newborn size are $24.07

We got a subscription from a friend from amazon and they deliver a box a month of size 1 216 count.. i know this is not enough, but we have been getting them since June and we are up to like 6 boxes!!

    Diapers.com has good prices, too.

My first 24 hours with the boys, I used an entire 20 pack of Pampers Swaddlers Newborn size. We will be CDing as soon as the boys fit into their XS BumGenius diapers, which can't come soon enough as disposables are expensive!

Also, FWIW, Huggies NB diapers are considerably larger than Pampers NB size.

I bought my diapers by the case from Costco. We used roughly one case per month per baby. As they get bigger, there are fewer diapers in the case, but you also go through fewer diapers per baby. I think we went through approximately 6-8 cases of the size 1-2 Huggies. It's hard to remember exactly!!
I also use their wipes (Kirkland brand) and it seems like one case lasted 1 1/2 - 2 months. Oh, I used the Kirkland diapers & hated them. The first night, both babies leaked out. Costco took them back & traded me for a box of Huggies.

We also went through about 20 a day in the beginning. I would get size 1's. You may need newborns for the first week or so, but probably not for long.

We use 16 per day. Sometimes more. I always count out eight diapers every morning and put a stack for each of them so I can keep up with how many they have used that day.

I would say it all really depends on how big they are. Mine were in newborn forever it seemed but they were preemies. My singletons were both born at 36 weeks and they wore the newborn for maybe a month. The Pampers swaddlers are the best by far I think. I personally HATE huggies, they ALWAYS leak on my kids, I don't know why. I got 2 cases from friends from amazon (ordered through bru somehow??) and bru wouldn't take them back. So I was stuck with them. When they get a little bigger, you can check out costco. The Kirkland diapers are just like pampers and cheaper. We use those all the time now and the boxes are huge. Their wipes are awesome too.

    HTH!

I used newborns for a few weeks. My girls were 6 pounds each at birth. Size 1 is next, and then size 2, etc. I was just as confused as you in the beginning. The good thing is the boxes have a weight range listed on them so you can pretty much judge by that and also by their fit, when you need to move up in a size.

We went through 10-12 a day for several weeks in the beginning.

Babies are 3 months and are in size 1 and one is in size 2. We used newborn for about a month.. we used 2 boxes of newborn (and a couple of packs) 2 boxes of 1's and are one one box of 2 for 3 months.. I might have forgotten some..
My babies were 7 and 5 lbs

ETA: size 1-2 is between size 1 and 2
