I personally have no idea I was never told..my OBGYN gave me that whole "you have a 35% chance of them being Identical still" and left it at that..I was like and that tells me what???..Lol..I find they look alot alike but I do see some differences for example one has a longer face and the other is more round..I'm going to try and post a pic later..everything else is the exact same head circ, height, length, blood type, and weight and everyone else even family members seems to think they are Identical..now it's making me curious to know for sure what they are...But I don't know exactly how to go about finding out..now I'm from Ontario, Canada and here my Dr said they won't test unless it's for a "medical reason"...So I'm just curious too with you guys exactly how many know and how many still are wondering and how many are getting them tested and just waiting on results?

Mine told me they were fraternal, probably, and based on looks, she was correct. Beth looks more like her older sister, Maggie, than her twin sister, Jackie.

My grandsons looked more alike at birth than they do now so it would have been hard to know at that time. But they have different blood types so we know for sure they are fraternal.

We were told our boys were fraternal, since they were di/di. (They did not share anything in the womb, separate sacs, placentas,etc..) Once they were born, we realized how much they looked alike, but still the Dr. said that they were fraternal. The placentas were not fused, etc.. Well, as the months went by, we realized that they looked so much alike, we had to find out for sure. My pediatrician said he couldn't order a DNA test, there was no medical reason and it was way too expensive for insurance purposes. We went through Pro Active Genetics, and did the swabs here at home. TS has links to a few DNA testing places. They cost about $150 US dollars, not sure about Canada.

Oh, and my boys are definately ID. Here is a picture. (They are 4 now)

I'd see about trying to find some stats on blood types vs frat/identical twins. Seeing as though that trait is the same, I'd be seriously leaning towards identical.

Ours are identical since they shared a placenta.

Our boys are fraternal. They looked so much alike when they were born but they look totally different now. However, after they were delivered the OB sent my placentas off to the lab to have them look at and tested to see if they were identical or fraternal. We did have separate sacs and placentas but they always tracked the exact same for growth in the womb so there was a question.

We were told from the beginning that they were probably ID since they were mono/di with a very thin membrane. Then we developed symptoms that ended up being TTTS whihc only happens with ID twins. Teh placenta and blood tests after birth further backed it up. And then the simple fact that although there is a slight weight difference and the matter of a small birthmark, they look just alike!

I was told mine were fraternal by the specialist during her ultrasound consult BUT thats only because of 2 placentas and 2 sacs. No one told me there is a 25% chance that they could have still been Identical. I really think my boys are ID because their eye color is the same and its a very unique color of sorts (a pretty blue green), they both have red hair also.
Anyway, lately I have been getting confused on which baby is which because they keep getting juggled around by Dh and the girls lol.
    Here is their pic together

Another reason they are more likely ID is because fraternals are genetic and we dont have twins in my family.

Our twins were di/di as well. They look different to us but other people struggle to tell them apart and we couldn't point to a single feature and say it was different. The differences we see are related to head shape which is influenced by position in the womb.

We ordered our DNA test from Affiliated Genetics and had a good experience with them. Oh, and our twins are identical.

I don't know about my girls since they are di/di. I tend to think they are identical though - both girls, same blood type, same facial features plus slightly redish hair. There is a weight diffence though and the heavier one has a rounder face. Family members that don't see them often have a hard time telling them apart and strangers (including the peditrican) tell me they look the same. To me, they look very different. One of these days I'll spend the money to have them tested.

Ours are fraternal for sure. A) They look different. Though both look like DH when he was a baby at different points from the pictures I saw last night. B) One has my bloodtype and the other has DH's. So one is A+ and the other is O+.

we don't know either..separate sacs, placentas, but same blood types. They have been approximately lb apart and one inch apart since birth...they get a mixed review :) 50% of the time people are asking how I tell them apart and the other 50% don't think they look alike. I can't make up my mind b/c sometimes I think they look nothing alike and other times I just don't know :) We will have the testing done at some point, just can't afford any extra expenses right now :)

We thought ours were identical throughout our ultrasounds but then results of placenta came back di-di, but we looked so much alike except for the head shape that we had them tested through proactive genetics andthey are identical.

THey told us within 2 hours as their blood type was different. They started looking different pretty quickly, so it wasn't really an issue.

I would say your are ID. One had more hair and that can make her look alittle different, but I bet if you put a hat on them its pretty hard to tell them apart. My girls were like that. :)

We are di/di but I'm thinking identical. I really have no clue but they look alot alike. People who don't see them often can not tell them apart at all.

They have the same blood type but so do DH and I! We are a whole family of B+ so that doesn't help much.

One of these days I'll have them tested when I want to spend the money. But I wonder about ProActive..it seems they always give an identical result??

My girls are identical (shared a placenta), but their face shapes are different which seems to be the most common difference in identical twins. That, along with weight differences. However, their features are the same. Even their toes look the same...and very different from my older DD's. Most people who get the testing do so because their twins look so much alike...that's why it usually comes back that they are identical (because they are!). I do have a friend who has twin girls and the doctors kept telling them that they were identical (they didn't share a placenta though). However, one had curly hair and the other had straight and they just didn't look alike. So they had them tested and they are fraternal. I'd say most fraternal twins really do look different...especially the older they get??

mine are ID for sure - they saw one placenta and a super thin membrane when I was only 6 weeks pg. they look alike except that Kellen has always been 1-2 lbs heavier than Colby.

everyone that we run into says our girls look exactly the same and are shocked when we tell them they are not identical but...
    - we see lots of differences -plus we did IVF
which I know they still could be ID but to us they look so different there is no doubt they are fraternal!

You sound just like my DH! I'm not saying you're wrong but parents are the worst judges of zygosity based on appearance. You should post a couple of pictures and poll.

I know because ours are girl/boy twins. This makes it really easy to tell them apart.

We were first told that ours were identical (at 10 weeks), then the tech insisted that since they were di/di (although we found out later that the placenta was fused) that they were fraternal so we went by that for the rest of the pregnancy. When they were born they looked nothing alike but both had the same blood type (B+) and if you really got down to comparing their features one by one, they were the same. We tested, literally for the heck of it - we just wanted the solidity of knowing, and they are identical. They are gradually starting to look more and more alike but they still look completely different to me.
