For those of you using neosure..how long did you have to use it before you were able to switch over to another formula? It is so expensive and you can only buy those small cans!

Mine were only on it until they were 6 months old. Some stay on it a full 12 months... it depends on if they are gaining weight with it, and staying healthy. Mine gained weight, and fast... and at 6 months they were well on the charts, and showed signs of being able to switch to a 'normal' formula. We were then switched to Good Start DHA and ARA.

My pediatrician wanted mine on Neosure until 6 months old. My one daughter didn't tolerate it, so...I took her off of it. My other daughter started not to like the taste (I breastfeed but they wanted me to add it to bottles after nursing so they could get the extra nutrition). Now...you didn't hear it from me...but sometimes if you tell the doctor they don't like the taste and refuse to eat, they will switch. In fact, I put my twins on cereal and they seem to be thriving MUCH better than on anything else and it causes less spitting up due to reflux. Sometimes you know when you are ready fo switches.

We were adding a scoop of neosure to their EBM bottles until they were about 2 1/2 months old. At that point I quit breastfeeding and pumping, so we just switched to regular formula. I can't remember if I talked to their ped about it, or if I just stopped using it!

My DS was on it for 1.5 months and DD was on it for 4.5 months. It's always a relief when they tell you that you can move on to other formula, especially since you can only buy it in those small cans!! [IMG] But, if it gets their weight up and helps them grow, then it was sure worth it to us!!

we didn't use Neosure - our hospital actually had a formula to make higher calorie formula using regular powdered formula...to make 5 oz of formula you'd use 5 oz water and 3 scoops of powder to make 24 cal formula...it certainly saved the expense of having to use the special formula - and they were only on it 4 weeks and they were VERY low birthweight (3.5 and 4.5 lbs at 36w)...

My twins are on Enfamil Enfacare, the Enfamil preemie formula, and we are staying on it until 12 months. I had hoped at 9 months they could switch to regular formula, but pedi wanted them on it until 12 for the extra calories.

They sent us home from the hospital on it but we didn't use it at first. Mine were exclusively breastfed until I got mastitis at 10 weeks and was on a antibiotic that I had to "pump and dump" for 2 weeks. They couldn't tolerate the neosure. Lots of spitting up and lots of gas! My pediatrician switched us to Gentlease and they are now 5 months old and can go from EBM to formula with no problems at all.

One of mine needed to be on neosure and I mixed it with EBM. She absolutely would not eat it so we changed to Pregestimil and it was a little less expensive. We were on that until around 6 months and then their doctor said it was okay to change her to Nestle Good Start, like her sister. It has worked great and they seem to like it alot better.

My dd and ds were on it for 6 months. Make sure that every time you go to the doctors office you ask for free samples. Our Pedi would give us 6 cans a visit. Of course, with the cans being so small, it really didnt last that long, but it did save money. We are now on Target brand formula and they are doing great on it.

I'm worried that part of the gas/crying during eating is the formula. I'm afraid to switch since our pedi is continuing to recommend it despite all the issues our ds is having. (gas, reflux, constipation and all the crying that goes along with that) They are both a decent weight 11lbs and about 13lbs so weight is not my concern..does it help with brain development or something else that I should continue them on it?

Mine were on Neosure for 5.5 months. I just switched to Similac Advanced w/Iron about a 4 days ago. Now they seem hungry more often, possibly because its not as filling.

We were on it for about 4 months. I have a $5.00 off coupon if you would like it. Please PM me with your address.

We are still on it - and will be until 1 year...

I get it from similac.com, you can get it in powdered formula in larger amounts, or premade in large or 4oz individual servings and they deliver! If you call them, they will send you coupons and take off money from your order...

Mine were on it until they were almost 9 months old. It is expensive and I hated that I could never get bigger cans. Hopefully yours can come off sooner, mine girls were small and needed the extra calories longer.

Mine were on it until 6 months old, then we switched to regular formula but still mixed it to a higher calorie per ounce (we still do this at 9 months).

Ask your pedi for Neosure samples. Mine always gave me cans of it when I was there plus they signed us up for Similac's multiple progam and I got 18 free boxes of Neosure ready to feed shipped to my house. I bought maybe a total of 8 cans of Neosure.

Also, I'd check with your pedi about when it is time to switch.

My Ped told me to plan on a year. It sounds like each case is different based on how the babies are doing and how early they are as well as the doc. My ds only needs it fortified to the breast milk everyother bottle now, but dd needs it for all of hers.
