i think that depends on you. we usually topped out at 30 mins., but i think they only got there 1x.
how long are you dongi it now? and what is the technique you are comfortable with using? and is this for naps or nighttime?

I don't think we have ever gone over 30 min. either and even that was not continuous crying, it was off and on.

I would go 10 minutes maybe, as mine only really scream when they are still hungry or dirty after they are put down, mine take a good 20 minutes of talking and babbling before they go to sleep, so if they are screaming, I know it's something else (usually a burp I didn't get up or over tired and need a 5-10 minute rock to calm down).

I think it really depends on the baby and on the mommy! The key to CIO is consistency, however you decide to do it. :hug99:

WELL, we gave up again after 45 minutes. they refuse to go to sleep on their own. we went in after 15 minutes but that made it worse, so we didn't go in again. after 30 minutes i gave up and we went in and got them. they were so upsest. i just don't know what to do

With our singleton we tried this and she became so stressed and frightened that we never tried it again. I know it works for some children but for us it was a no. She actually slept worse when she did fall asleep and was MUCH clingier than before. A friend pointed me to Dr Sears web site on sleep solutions and he has some great ideas that worked for us. I think the trick as someone mentioned is to figure out what works for your little ones, because I don't think the same shoe fits all kids. Good luck!!! :)
