How long does this phase last?

The I'm-so-excited-about-pulling-myself-up-that-I-can't-go-to-sleep-or-stay-asleep phase? Tom just spent 20 minutes pulling himself up onto his knees instead of sleeping, and yesterday we had to go in at least once per nap and every couple of hours at night to help him down.

It's thrilling for me, too, and so cute that he's driven to keep practicing, but I don't like to get in the shower or start any real work until I know they're asleep, and meanwhile his brother has been sleeping soundly for 20 minutes...

Any thoughts about how long I can look forward to dealing with this exciting phase?

I don't know. My girls were really good at getting themselves down right from the start. I worried about it, but it never was an issue. I hope some of the other ladies here will be able to give you some advice. But YEAH Tom for learning how to pull up!!! :clapping:

I think it varies...in my house it lasted about 2 weeks until they could consistently figure out how to get back down (total for the up on the knees and standing up phase which immediately followed).

My dd would do the same thing when she figured out how to stand. She didn't know how to get down, and if she fell, even just onto her butt, she would cry. Usually, she just got stuck! But the good news is it only lasted about a week, maybe? Not much longer than that. Then, she would still just plop down, but knew she would hurt herself. Don't worry, they learn quickly!

Amy never did this -- she seemed to learn how to get up and get down at the same time. For Sarah, it lasted about 3 days (a week, tops). Fortunately she didn't really do it at naps, and at bedtime it was only until she initially fell asleep, but not all night long. I'd have to go back in 2 or 3 times in the 15-20 minutes after bedtime to set her back down. It can also help if you pry the child's hands off the crib bars and then let go, so they see that it doesn't hurt to fall down in their crib.

I was up for 2 hours last night with this same behaviour (and I was about to write a similar post). 2 a.m. to 4 a.m. was not a happy time at my house.
