How long does the "why" stage last?

My DD has started asking "Why" for just about everything lately - "Why is her name xxx?" "Why do we take a nap?" etc.

Personally, I remember this phase as a kid and seeing other kids go through it. It doesn't bother me, and I look at it as a fun time to tell my DD about how we view things in life. On the other hand, I could tell my DH was a little taken back by all the questions the other day. I told him I don't think this stage will end anytime soon. Is it true - does this stage go on for awhile? Or, could it be short lived? I think it is just going to be a part of life and them wanting to learn about their surroundings.

    What's your thoughts?

I don't know when the why stage ends. We are in that stage right now with DS1 and have been for about a month or two. His favorite question is why and he asks it about everything.

Catherine doesn't really do the "why" thing, but Andrew is incessant about it!!!

Rachel has started it full force. My daycare provider calls her the question girl. It's cute, but does grain on you after a while. I am hoping it doesn't last too long.

My soon to be 5 yo still does it. It is crazy. He isn't even asking about things like "Why is the sky blue" but when I say things like "we are not going to ______'s house today" and then there are about a million followup questions. "Why?" "because___". "Why?" etc.
Hope these 2 aren't like that.

When my 3yo starts with the "whys" I just start asking him back. He will say "why...." and I will just say "why....?" He usually gets frustrated and stops. It's really very amusing. :)

I know we're out of it now, but it can drive you crazy, here it lasted a few months for sure

Here it's been going on strong for about 6 months.

But what gets me more than why why why, is that they also ask questions they know the answer to. I have no idea why they do that, just making conversation? Checking to make sure the answer is consistant? I've started just saying "you tell me." I hope that will develop their thinking skills.

mine have been in the Why asking stage for 2months. For Alexis it's a matter of how things work and why it works that way. She's analytical as well as strong willed.
Rachel is just strong willed, not as analytical, and so I hate to do it, but when necessary I say, "B/c I am the mother that's why" and so far the Mommy card trumps all needless Why questions. :D
