How long does a bottle of formula keep (in fridge)?

Hello! My DH makes me a couple of bottles of formula (using cold water) before we go to bed, then if the girls need a top up after breast feeding, I just heat up and give it to them.

This morning a relative of mine, threw out last nights formula from the bottles (I never used them) ~ without telling me ~ and when I questioned it, she told me that it was unhealthy and not right...

So I've looked on the tin but it doesn't say anything. I thought it would be alright a couple of days in the fridge if they were only prepared with cold water and put straight into fridge, then heated up just before use...

What does everyone suggest or do?

I used to make mine with warm water, mixing efficiently was difficult for me with cold water. I believe the container said the formula would be ok up to 48 hours if it was refrigerated immediately upon making. I always tried to make enough for 24 hours but sometimes there was more. I had no concerns using what was left over the second day.

I do it the same way as Dianne. Warm water cauz it mixes easily. And I make enough for 24 hours and then if there is more and it lasts up to 48 hours, we still use it.

as long as it is refrigerated it lasts 48 hours. I used to make my bottles at night for the next day and if I had an extra then I would use it the morning after that...sometimes they separate a little (I use soy formula) and I would have to shake it well but that was the only "downside" (if you could even call it that)...

I agree, 48 hours is pretty standard I think. Now if they've been drinking out of them that's a whole different story.

Yep, 48 hours (per our pedi). We always made it in big batches. As long as it hasn't been heated, it should be fine.

I keep for up to 48 hours also...
*just a tip I found to mix the formula(by the batch) without clumps using either warm or cold water...I mix the powder and part of the water in the blender for about 30 seconds and add to the rest of the water. I always end up with bubbles but they go away fairly quickly. No clumps, no fuss and no shaking...I have tendinitis in my left wrist from carrying monster babies in carriers and I prefer to put as little strain on it as possible.
