How Long did your infants sleep at night in the beginning?

My twins are 12 days old and I'm wondering when the are going to start sleeping more than 2 1/2 hours at night between feedings. My older two kids were amazing sleepers, my oldest slept through the night at six weeks and my 2nd DD slept through the night at three months.

The twins were 5 pounds 11 ounces (both) when born, so i was just wondering what other people's experience has been. My husband is home now so he's helping out with the feedings, but he has to go out of town for a month in two weeks and i'm really hoping to get them to start sleeping at least 4 hours at a time by then.

    Thanks for any thoughts.

Are they gaining weight? How are you feeding them? My twins were up every 2 hours at that stage, but my son (Evan) was an excellent sleeper right off the bat and would only get up twice a night. All were breastfed. Everyone sleeps different. I hope it gets better soon!

Mine were up every 2-3 hours until around 2 months. Then they started going around 3-4 hours.

    Congrats on the babies!

Yes they are gaining weight, they go in Thursday for their two week check up i'll be interested to see how much they've gained. I'm mostly breastfeeding with supplemental formula. We've been switching off every other feeding at night, i do one nursing, my husband does one bottle of BM or Formula...otherwise we wouldn't be able to function to take care of our other kids.

At that age mine were waking up around 3-4 time every night. So by morning I'd be looking at 6-8 bottles -

I was told that they started sleeping better [sometimes STTN] after they reach around 11 lbs. From what I remember, mine started sleeping a LOT better by 12 lbs. Now they either STTN or they wake up once each. On fluke nights one will wake twice, but that hasn't happened in a while [KNOCK ON WOOD,]

my kids woke every 3hrs to eat until just a week or so ago...now its about every 4hrs in the evening. I just make sure to feed them every 3hrs during the day and let them sleep however long they can at night.
I too have been told that they will start sleeping longer when they reach about 11lbs.

One of my girls was born at the same weight as yours, the other was 5lbs 9oz. Like yours, they were eating every 2.5 hours at first. Within a month they were going 4 hours. I think that yours could be very close, if not there, by the time your husband leaves town.

    Good Luck!

At the age your little ones are, mine were up every 2-3 hours by the time they hit 10 weeks they were sleeping 10-12 hours through the night! Hang in there, Momma!

One of my boys was the exact same weight as yours and they quickly moved to 3 hours and got to four hours around 2 months, but every baby is different. I have found the weight really makes a difference. Their is a pound between my guys and the smaller baby has always been about a month behind in terms of sleep.

Hope it gets better soon! I know it seems hard now, but as we all know - it does get better and it goes by faster than you would think :).

Both of my boys would go about 3 hours between feeding at night in the begining. They started stretching it out by about a month (maybe 4 hours) and by 2 months they would sleep for about 5 hours at a time. They have been sleeping through the night (7 to 8 hours) since 3 months. In the last week or so they have been able to go almost 9 hours for me at night and I actually have to wake them up in the morning. They are on all formula though so I'm not sure if that sometimes makes a difference. We started offering a slightly bigger bottle at their last feeding in the evening to encourage them to sleep longer starting after our 2 month checkup when the ped. recommended it.

Mine woke up every 3 hours until 4 months. Then slept from 7pm to 1-2am then at 4-5am until 6 months... then until 4-5am until 7 months... And now they wake up at 6-7am. I know there are ways to make them sleep longer earlier (give them a paci instead of feeding etc), but it didn't work for us, and honestly they needed the extra feeding(s) until 7 months.

Right now my twins wake up every 3-4 hours. When my husband and I give them a bath (use the lavender scented wash, they will sleep better) they go 5-6 hours at night.
