I was wondering when everyone stopped work?

I know it's different for everyone, and it can change depending on my cervix, but I was just wondering when it got too uncomfortable to work, in general? I have a date picked out, but I don't know if it is too soon, too late - and I have to fill out my disability claim form with a date and send that in asap.

I was thinking the second week of February, when I will be 32 weeks. But I have no clue if I'll actually want to stop working sooner, or if that's just a good date to plan on. TIA!

I stopped working at 25 weeks when I went into the hospital with PTL. My Dr had originally told me that she did not want me working past 28 weeks though, even if I had no complications (which obviously didn't end up being the case). When my mom had twins and she worked up until 36 weeks (of course that was 20 years ago), so everyone and every doctor is different.

I had a very uneventful pregnancy and even went past 39 weeks and I stopped working at 7 months exactly...just couldn't do it too tired, large you know the deal.

    hello dear,

I was told by my OB that I can only send in the disability form that she will give me once my disability starts, which will be in my case starting next week. I'll be 28weeks in a couple days and my OB told me from the very beginning that she will put me on disability at 28weeks, she does that with most pregnant twin moms.

honestly, about a month ago, I thought I could easily work up to 32 weeks or so, but now, I am not so sure anymore. I felt real good all my pregnancy, I only grow belly (30lbs) so far, but since 2 weeks, both babies have their legs up in my ribs and I am pretty sure I have 2 or 3 bruised (if not broken!) ribs...it hurts a lot and there is not much relief to it, except sleeping at night, then I don't feel it in the morning for maybe 2 hours, that's it. so my bath tub is my best friend these days.

my OB also said that working longer than 28weeks increases risk of preemies in many moms, she says I need to rest more and get off my feet, only that way you can keep them in as long as possible, so I do everything I can in that chapter. my goal is to make it to 37weeks, we do have everything ready at home for the babies, but still one shower coming up on January 13.

did you ask your OB when she's planning on taking you off work? they usually can tell you more or less......

    good luck!

My OB said if there was no complications I could go whenever I wanted. If I start dialating or anything, he will put me on bedrest, but if everything looks good it's up to me!

I'm not sure how much longer I'll feel up to working. I'm on break right now (I'm a teacher - but not in the classroom, so I can sit most of the time) and so I have been fine. Last week was rough at work though. Maybe I should just wait and see. I DO have sick days to use first, so maybe it won't be that bad submitting the paperwork right when I go on disability.

Thanks for the responses - keep em coming :)

I stopped around 31 weeks ~ just got wayyyy to tired & was wayyy too big! Plus my commute is an hour each way, being in the car that long every day wasn't too comfy :)

I stopped working at 38 weeks, when I was induced. It wasn't easy or fun, but I pushed through because I knew my family needed the money and my doctor was fine with it.

I say, if you can afford it, stop sooner. I was absolutely miserable.

My doctor suggested stopping work at 28 weeks.....I argued, since the pregnancy was going great, I had NOTHING indicate the need to stop working (I am a teachers aide at a high school), the was a nurse on staff at the school that I was within 100 yards of at all times, the school was about 15 miles closer to the hospital than my house, etc, etc, etc. So the doctor let me continue working............when I was 32 weeks, everything went down hill!!!!!! I had PTL, was starting to tire out easily, contractions were beginning, you name it, it started falling apart.....I was put on "you can't go to the mall shopping" type bedrest (basically no, you cannot work, but you do not have to be on "bedrest" either.

Babies came at 36 weeks exactly (so 4 weeks of me being off of work before they were born).

i stopped work at 24 weeks due to slightly elevated blood pressure... but my doctor decided that he just didnt want me working 11 hour days. so ive been on modified bed rest for about 5 and a half weeks or so.

im glad i took that out.. i was so tired.. and tired even more every day!

I worked till 37 weeks & had my babies at 38 weeks. They only trouble I had was some swelling and my bp did stay up a little. I do have a sit down desk job & my boss is really laid back so I could go home and rest as much as I needed to. My doctor told me anytime after 35 weeks I could take off. good luck.

My doctor originally had said that I could work til 30 weeks. I got a blood clot in my leg at 18 so I stopped working then. I had preterm labor at 27, so no way I would have made it to 30 anyway. I am so big and miserable I can't imagine working on my feet all day!!

My plan was to go to 32 weeks, because Christmas is a busy time at work and I didn't want to let them down, plus I've had an uncomplicated fraternal twin pregnancy. But my work also involves a lot of standing and stress (event management), and by 26 weeks I was struggling, so at 27 weeks 3 days, my OBGYN wrote me off (she said she'd let me continue to work if I really wanted to and promised to take it easy all other times, but I had enough at that time). I am lucky though in that I have fully paid sick leave so I can afford to not work.

I've been off work since 15 weeks, but if I did not have complications my peri said 28 weeks would have been as far as I could have gone.

I had planned to to work until 35 weeks-and then I was going to use vacation until the babies were born-unfortunately at 31 weeks I was hospitalized for PTL and then sent home on bed rest and medication to stop contractions.
I will admit that I was getting very uncomfortable and even though I had a desk job as an admin. assistant I ran lots of errands and at home I have a 3yo so the bed rest forced me to slow way down which I obviously needed.
My disability would have only kicked in and paid out if my doctor had a medical reason to take me out of work-so usually as long as you are handling your pregancy with out complications you can keep working.
Good luck to you-I do think bed rest works to help with PTL, so far I have made it almost 3 more weeks of keeping these babies put! I am hoping to make it to 35 weeks and at that point my doctor has said that he will take me off the medication and let nature take its course.

I worked until the day I gave birth (37.5). But, I had a desk job and was able to telework half the time starting at 30 weeks. I only drove into the office 2-3 times a week and went during non-rush hour times. My OB was really just concerned about the drive and left it up to me to do whatever was comfortable. I was planning on switching to full time teleworking for that last week (my water broke a week before my scheduled c-section). I think you really just need to take a cue from your body and how you feel. Every pregnancy is different and you need to do whatever you are comfortable with...definitely don't push it, it's not worth it.

I worked up until I was 33 weeks. I am a teacher so I tried to sit as much as possible. I wouldn't recommend working that long. It was very hard and probably contributed to my babies being born at almost 36 weeks. My doctor wanted me off at 27 weeks, and I wish I would have taken her advice. By the time I stopped working I couldn't hardly get enough rest and my feet and ankles stayed swollen constantly.

I went part time at 24 weeks (by choice, I begged my OB who was supportive) and stopped at 28 weeks (also by choice). I was having a smooth pregnancy but I was wiped, my job was stressful, and I didn't want to be subjecting myself to such busy days. I wanted to feel like I was doing whatever I could to keep them in there longer. Two teachers at my school had given birth to their twins at 30 weeks and had worked right up until then, and both strongly advised me to stop sooner. Once I quit, I seriously thought, there was no way I could have worked another week. Things got much harder for me physically/exhaustion-wise around 29-30 weeks, and my feet and back were starting to hurt. It's different for everyone of course!

I will be 35 weeks this weekend and am going out this coming Thursday. It does vary from person to person. Luckily up until this point I have not had any complications. Most of my job involves sitting at a desk and computer. I felt great up until just a few days ago. For me I was trying to hold out as long as possible so I could continue to receive full pay checks but now I am ready to stop.

    Hi,
I was pulled from work at 25 weeks because of an incompetent cervix. It went from being completely
normal to .9cm in a matter of two weeks. My doctor didn't want me working past 28 weeks
    anyhow.

I am a high school teacher and really found it difficult to stay off my feet during the day. Then,
at night, I came home to my very active 20 month old.

I have been on strict bedrest for over 9 weeks now because of my cervix and I think
I pushed it too much this fall. Looking back, I should have been more careful!
My twin pregnancy has been quite different from my singleton pregnancy --
I wish that I had listened to my body a bit more!

    Good luck!

I worked until 38 weeks and was induced at 38 weeks 1 day.
    I have a desk job and I wasn't that uncomfortable...so I kept working.

It's my goal to work as long as possible. I don't have any plans to quit working unless the doctor makes me. I still feel great!

my doc had me stop at 26 weeks when i was having contractions at work. i was ready to leave at that time, anyway. it was too hard to get around and i wasn't working in the safest environment (adolescent psychiatric unit in a hospital)... we were getting some "dangerous" kids, and i was in no position to protect myself

originally the peri said he put all multiple moms on BR at 24 weeks - and I told him he was out of his mind! I couldn't afford to spend all that time off work and since I had a desk job and an uncomplicated pregnancy (even though I'm a diabetic) I worked until 35w3d and had them at 36...

also too my endocrinologist said that there was NO reason to go on bedrest if I wasn't having complications - its much easier to control blood sugars when there is some activity level during the day...of course if there were complications I would have gone out earlier but I was fortunate...

I worked until 24 weeks, but my doc would have taken me out at 32 (although she did warn early on that by 28 weeks I would be begging to stop!).

My OB said most twin moms slow down between 24 to 28 weeks. I stopped work at 31 weeks. I had a job that required me to be on my feet and when it got to the point where I was "resting" more then I was working I knew it was time to go on Maternity leave. I got my OB to write me out of work.

I was originally told 28 weeks-which was right before a new school year started. I was doing fine, so I wanted to start the school year with my new class to get them off on the right foot before a sub came in. I worked unttil a day shy of 33 weeks-was sent straight from a regular OB appt to labor and delivery for PTL. You have to listen to your body-I knew I was pushing myself too hard but wanted everything just right when the sub came in. The night before I was hospitalized, I worked way too late and drove home in tears from being too tired/stressed etc. If I'd listened to my body, I would have gone home and taken it easy. Only you know how you are really feeling.

Today was offically my last day of work. My ob had said that I should expect to stop working at around 28 weeks, and that's were I am now. I was on my feet for my job (retail sales) so it was hard. But now I'm done. YAY!!! DH greets me as I get home saying "How's it going unemployed one?"

I was planning on going to 33 weeks, but went on modified bed rest at 29 weeks and 5 days - I was so so so uncomfortable by then, I was happy to stop.
