How long did you work?

So I see a lot of you had 38 week babies and such. I want to be in that club. How long did you work before being put on bed rest or even had the baby. I am hoping to make it to week 34 before being put on bed rest or before they are born. I want to work that long. That means only 10 more weeks. Is that too much to ask? I am a teacher and I have informed my principal that I will be sitting as much as I can to make it far. Let me know :)

    Thanks,
    Rachelle

I worked up until the day I was admitted to the hospital for PTL at 24 weeks. Once I went in, I never went home, until my girls were born. All was perfectly fine with my pregnancy, absolutely no complications until that day. My best advice would be not to set arbitrary goals, and just take it one day at a time, listen to your body, and follow your Dr's orders. Best of Luck to you!!

I was taken off work around 19wks and never got to go back. I had placenta previa and really bad pelvis issues. I stayed off work till my boys were born at 31wks due to IUGR. I hope your babies stay cooking for a long time! Best of luck

I wanted to quit at 20 weeks, but I made it another 4 weeks before I just couldn't take it any longer.

My doctor put me on part time at 30 weeks and took me out of work at 32 because he was sure I'd give birth by 34 weeks (no real reason his thinking) and I had them at 39 weeks.

    Good luck!!

I worked until 34 weeks and I delivered after induction at 38 weeks. I did not have any bedrest I just figured something had to give at that point so, I could make it as far as possible.

I was put on modified bedrest at 30 weeks and kept them cooking until almost 35 weeks. Until 30 weeks I had had no problems whatsoever, so I was really suprised by it all!

My doc takes all twin moms off work at 28 wks and by that time I was ready to be done. I delivered at 38 wks on the dot...
I did have a 2 yr old at home though so I was still busy just not commuting and was happy to be home.

I commute into downtown Chicago by train for work and my dr. had told at the beginning that around 28 weeks she'd really consider putting me on a reduced work schedule or take me out of work all together. I was not happy about that, but fate decided it for me when I was diagnosed with placenta previa after having a pretty good first 2 trimesters. She was ok with me working from home as long as I was lying on the couch or bed doing it. So I did that and by 32 weeks the previa had resolved itself. I never went back to the office, except for when my dh drove me down on Saturdays for an hour. By that time anyway I was really uncomfortable, not sleeping and was experiencing really bad carpal tunnel in both arms, I decided at 33 weeks that I would be done at 34 weeks, my last day was a Friday and the following Tuesday at 34 weeks is when I went into labor. Listen to your body - it will definately tell you if you're doing to much and when you just can't handle it any longer.

I worked until 36 weeks. I had a scheduled induction at 37 weeks, so I finally just asked off so that I could lie around on my couch for the last week before they came! It was heavenly

I just started voluntary bedrest (my Dr agrees) at 20 weeks. I didn't go on bedrest until 28 weeks with the girls and they were born a week later (with no warning - everything was fine before that), so this time we've been very cautious. Just listen to your body and go as slow as you can and rest as much as you can. I agree with taking it one day at a time.

I had my babies just shy of 39 weeks and I wasn't put on bedrest but I stopped working at 30 weeks. Mostly because I could and so I did!

I think it depends a lot on your pregnancy AND your job. I started cutting back on strenuous tasks at 32 weeks, and have mostly been working from home since 35 weeks. I would not be able to work right now if I hadn't been able to make those changes, and I've had a very uncompicated pregnancy. I think you definitely need to be open to the possibility that you won't be able to work at some point.

PS I just re-read your post. I think you COULD make it to week 34, but it's going to be HARD with your job - teaching is so demanding. A few thoughts - 1) see if DH can pick you up and drop you off at school 2) see if you can get some chairs to sit in while you teach 3) see if someone can take over your out of class duties so you can rest during those times 4) see if there is a community volunteer or college student who might want to help in your class for the next two months. Above all else, don't try to be superwoman - if you are crying by the time you get home from work, then you are doing too much and you run the risk of developing problems. Good luck!

There was a long thread recently on this topic. Won't repeat myself, but just wanted to share with the OP:

I worked until the day I delivered at 35 weeks 5 days. I am an accountant and it was tax season. I did only work 40 hours a week ( usually during tax season, we work from 52 - 60 hours).
