With my DD we lived in PA when she was born (41 weeks) and our Ped said to stay awake from enclosed areas for 8 weeks.

With the boys, they were born at 32 weeks and due to their prematurity we had to do 3 months until the end of RSV season.

The boys were in the NICU for a month, then our Dr. said we had to stay home for a month. After that, I kept them pretty much covered and untouchable by strangers for as long as I could through the winter. My DH was deployed though so I had to take them to the grocery store with me, I just tried to make sure people stood away.

My boys got to come home in february and we stayed out of public places until June. They told us to avoid public places during cold and flu season so I did. We still got out of the house though because I had to take the boys to doctor and PT and OT appointments everyweek. I just didn't take them grocery shopping or to any functions until june. That being said my boys were not sick all winter at home but once june hit they have been sick off and on most of the summer. I still don't take them grocery shopping and we are still home a lot but it is nice to get out once and a while. My boys were also premature so that may make a difference.Best of luck

My girls were born right in the middle of RSV season and a month early, we were told by the pedi no outside areas for a minimum of 6-8 weeks, longer if we could. We ended up keeping them inside until March (12 weeks)..there really wasn't any reason to take them around a bunch of people. Anyone that wanted to see them came to our home.

Our boys were born at 37w 3d (April) and we were outside in the front yard the first day home. Our first outing was to family's home a week later. No RSV to worry about until this year.

I honestly was never told not to take them out. I was going for walks outside every day and weekly trips to the mall etc.. within a week of being home born at 37 weeks.

I was told to keep them away from crowded places such as the mall, walmart, etc. That was from the NICU staff. My pedi told me to keep them in for 2 months ( 8 weeks ) and away from places like that also. I have been out with them just not in real crowded areas

We took our twins out for the first time when they were three weeks old - to Sunday School (to our class, not the nursery) and brunch. Anyone who touched them used Purell first.

My DS spent five weeks in the NICU (born at 39 weeks with a surfactant deficiency) and was released in late August (2007) - the head neonatalogist told us to keep him home for a year, do not send our then two-year-old to Mother's Day Out, etc. Really freaked me out. We ended up keeping him home until April the following year - literally did not take him anywhere other than the pediatrician. Oh - and to my in law's for Christmas Eve. We did send our daughter to school - but I scrubbed her down as soon as she got home. We washed our hands so much that all of our fingers were cracked. And DS received Synagis August through March. We made it through without a sniffle. Miserable experience, though, I am not a stay-at-home type of girl.

We were able to take DS on walks - all doctors we consulted with said that was okay - open, outdoors was fine. I used a mosquito net (purchased at Babies R Us) to cover his car seat, which we used with a Snap n Go, so that nobody would be tempted to touch him, but we could still see him.

We never stayed in with any of our kids, out and about from day 1. None of mine were born super premature, 36 wks for my oldest ds and twins, and 39 for my dd.

12 weeks when I went back to work and they started daycare. They had only been to Grandma's and one outing to a pizza diner before that. They were 6 weeks early born at the beginning of December though!

Ours were 37 weeks 5 days, so nobody mentioned keeping them in. We've taken them out since they were a week old. If people hold/touch them we make sure they sanitize hands, but otherwise I've got to get out every day, with out without them! :pardon:

We went for park walks right away. My ped said I could go out but just to be mindful of using antibacterial lotion. Otherwise, just because I wasn't up to task we were hanging around for at least 2 months before I really got out once a week to the store. Sad thing is we got sick from a bug my husband brought home (he didn't get sick - it blindsided us) - after all the precautions we took...heh heh.

All of my kids were healthy & full term and we didn't stay inside at all. We were out & about as soon as I felt up to it myself.

We were never told to stay indoors.. just to take the obvious precautions of hand washing and avoiding people who were sick. We took them out pretty early!

My twins were born at 35 weeks, 2 days and we started taking them out for walks every day about a week and a half ago (they are 4 weeks old as of tomorrow). I had a c-section and was on bedrest for two months before the birth so I was itching to get outside and walk. We have gone to a few coffee shops and one restaurant so far but are avoiding super crowded places like the mall for the time being. We are also not taking them to large gatherings and discouraging people from touching/holding them. Anyone who does hold them must wash their hands or use antibacterial lotion first. So many people are sick at the moment so there is no point taking any unnecessary risks!
