how long can you go at 1.5 cm?

I am new to TS but so far really liking what I have seen!

I am 31 weeks pregnant with g/g twins (my first pregnancy). I had a bout of pre-term labor that was controlled at 24 weeks and have been on modified bed rest ever since.

I had an appointment today and my cervix was dilated to 1.5 cm and I'm 25% effaced. During the PTL, I dilated to 1.5 cm as well but then the cervix reconstituted after the contractions were controlled. I know with singleton pregnancies that people can go a long time with this level of dilation. Anyone have any experience with this in twin pregnancies? Obviously, I know it varies a lot, but I'm curious what your experience has been.

    Thanks!

    Congratulations and welcome to Twinstuff.

I was 2cm dialated, 80% effaced, under 2cm in length, funneling with a bulging bag at 29 weeks, with bedrest and meds I was able to continue to carry until 36 1/2 weeks. My children were perfectly healthy, not a moment of NICU time and they both came home with me when I was discharged.

I was 2 cm at 32 weeks, 2 cm at 33 weeks, 3 cm at 34 weeks, 3 cm at 34 weeks, 4 cm at 35 weeks, 4 cm at 36 weeks, 4 1/2 cm at 37 weeks and 4 1/2 cm at 38w2d when I was induced ... so I would say, you could still go quite a while. However some go from nothing into labor, so there is no guarantee.

    Good luck!

    With me:

    1 cm at 24 weeks
    2 cm at 28 weeks
    3 cm at 30 weeks
    4 cm at 32 weeks
5 cm at 34 weeks and I delivered then

glad you asked this question! I have been 1cm since 28 weeks and worried about it ever since. I have not dilated anymore but am about 65% effaced now at 31.5 weeks
glad to know it is possible to last 38 weeks with dilation starting so soon.

Nobody knows how far, really. I was 2-3cm, 100% effaced and +1 station by 26wks and I carried (with lots of intervention!) until 34w6d! Rest up and take care of yourself and you've probably got a good shot at cooking those babes until they're done. good luck!

I was 1cm from about 25 wks. Then after PTL at 31 wks I was 4cm 50% for 4 more weeks. I dont know how those babies stayed in, but they did.

I was 1 to 1.5 cm starting at 29 weeks. I delivered the twins at 35 weeks 3 days. I had preterm labor and was on meds to stop labor. Hang in there and keep baking those babies!

I am trying to remember...I was 1 cm at 27 weeks (placed on bedrest). At 30 weeks I was admitted to high risk for PTL until 32 weeks. At 32 weeks (when I was dischared) I was 2 cm and about 40% effaced. Went back in at 33 weeks (admitted again)...still 2 cm, but 80-90% effaced. Went into labor (that couldn't be stopped anymore) at 34w1d and was 4 cm 100% effaced.

AFAIK, you can go a LONG time. Most women who've had a baby before never completely close up and are always a bit dilated. I know for myself, with my singleton, I walked around at 3cm dilated for a month. and my son was nearly 9 pounds and pushing down on that cervix. but it didn't change, and in the end we had to evict him [IMG]

take it easy! you should be okay-

Thanks so much for the replies. Good to know I have a good chance of keeping them cooking for awhile yet.

I'm sure it varies with every mom, but I was 1 cm dilated at 30 weeks and am currently at 2cm (I'm 34 weeks today). With my singelton, I was dilated for the last two months, and dilated to 4 cm from weeks 36-40! So it's defintinely possible that you might have no problem at all - just take it easy, like they said. All the pp's seem to have similar experiences!

I was hospitalized for PTL at 33 weeks. I was 2cm dilated and 80% effaced. Katelyn was at 0 station-had been for a few weeks. Her head was pressing on my cervix and causing the changes. I stayed 2cm and 80% until 36 weeks. At that appt, I was 4 cm and 90% effaced. Still, my girls were induced at 38 weeks and my cervix was the same as the 36 week appt.
