I stopped taking the Procardia 2 days ago. I have been having contractions every 4-6 minuted since then. I was at the ob yesterday and was not dialated at all!! I had an NST today and the monitor showed the contrax every six min. They didn't check me because they hadn't gotten any worse or more frequent. I left there and DH and I went out to eat. As we left I started having contrax every 3 min. and they were starting to really hurt. We got home and I layed down and the intesity started to subside. I am now back to every six minutes and I have a lot of cervical twinges and pain here and there but nothing else. How long can this go on for before I actually go into labor I am going nuts!!!! I can't even get up or shift positions without having one. Anyone else experience this or for anyone that was on meds for PTL how long after you were off did you go into labor? I am miserable. :(

    Hi,

I was on niphedipine (same as procardia) from about 33 weeks to 35 weeks or so. I had constant contractions was dialated between 3-4cm and had alot of pressure as soon as I stopped taking it. Dont mean to burst your bubble but I didn't actually go into real labor (meaning I was 5cm dialated) until I was 37weeks 1day.

BTW I never had regular contractions even when I was in active labor there were very weak ones that I could barely feel and very strong ones and they ranged from less than a minute apart to several minutes apart and right before they checked me they said I highly doubt that you are dialated anymore but wouldn't you know 9 or so hours later I had two little babies in my arms. If I were you I would go to the ER and request that they check your cervix.

I went a week to the day after coming off the meds (I had been on for 6 weeks). I hope you are able to get some rest, you are definitely on the home stretch!

Like Diane I was off meds for a week when I went into labor. I did have contractions everyday until then.

I was never put on meds (ob said the studies were not conclusive), I was 70% effaced and 2cms dilated from 31 weeks on. After being taken off bedrest at 36 weeks for some reason I couldn't make a contraction come- they just stopped!!!! I was induced at 37w5d.

I was on nephedipine from 22 week till 35 weeks and some change (stopped against Dr.'s orders)
I started softening at 28 weeks and dilating at 32 weeks. At 34 weeks my ctx all but stopped, like PP there was nothing I could do to make one come! Then, 2 days after I stopped the meds (I believe 36 weeks exactly) I was in L&D and almost delivered, but Doc gave me a shot of terb and ctx stopped again, so sent me home. 2 days later an NST showed ctx every 4 min, and was 3 cm dilated. Again just got sent home, why I don't know cuz thinking back I was in early labor at that point. The next day my water started trickling (though I didn't go in cuz I thought I was just leaking urine, as I had been for several weeks) and another day later my water all out broke. 15 minutes later we were in L&D and I was 6.5cm dilated. Monitor showed strong, frequent ctx (though I didn't feel them) that required yet another shot of terb to slow them down till we could get to the OR (baby A was footling breech and coming out already)

So, about a week after I stopped the meds I had the girls. :)
