This may be a silly question, but I honestly just don't know.... :FIFblush: How long will they be eating formula? Do they stop once they're over a year and can eat baby food and drink milk? How does that work?? I'm mostly wondering b/c DS is on alimentum, and I really want to know when we can stop buying it!

I can't really help about the alimentum, but my girls quit drinking formula at about 1 yr old. We slowly mixed their formula with milk and eventually it was all milk.

I think that most peds recommend a year, ours recommends 9 months. Since he is on the Alimentum though, you might be on the later side switching to milk.

They can start switching to milk at 1 year, most people start mixing a little before then.

We started switching whole milk for some of their bottles at about 9 monhts, they were completely off the formula by 13 months. There is a formula made for toddlers, but I have never used it.

We used formula until they were a year old, although the amount went down after about 9-10 months when they started eating more solids. I don't know anything about Alimentum specifically, sorry.

I am not sure why yours are on Allementum, but mine are on it because of a milk protein problem. They will be 2 in Nov. but are still drinking this at night before bed because they can't drink whole milk. We can eat in some things, but just to drink it does not work yet. Our Dr. hopes that after 2 we can try again. I will be glad to be off of this because of the cost.

Most peds say 12 months. Our ped does make the switch at 9 months and we did with our oldest DD. But since Emilie and Trevor were preemies we kept them on until 12 months.

I hear ya about the Alimentum. I have one on it for the milk protein allergy and I cant stand to buy it all the time. But our Ped said that we have to wait until after a year for the gradual switch and even then we may still have a milk issue.

We are bfing but at their 1 year appt their ped wanted us to start supplementing 3 bottles a day of enfacare (22 calorie formula) because of their weight. He said no cows milk until they are 20lbs.

Twelve months is recommended, and that's what we did with my first. We started mixing at 11 months, she was off at 12 months. I'll do the same with the twins.

I switched from formula to whole milk at 12 months, per my pedi. But my twins had no milk allergy issues or anything.

Our pedi told us that we could switch at 9 months but after talking to a lot of moms on here we decided it would hurt to keep them on it for a while. so we are almost at there 1 year birthday and we are mixing milk and formula.
