How long are they in high chairs?

    Hi!

We are still in the first year, but we hate our high chairs. They are really hard to clean, and my girls are petite and can't reach the food very well. I saw one at a friends' house that the girls loved. They are from IKEA, and only 19 bucks each (but of course we have to double everything!)

I am ready to drive right now and get it but I am wondering how long the girls will actually be in high chairs. They are 10 months old now. What do you guys think ? Is it worth it?

I think my older DD was in a high chair for at least 20 months, maybe 22? By age 2, though, she was sitting in her Stokke chair at the table, and eating off a plate.

It probably varies by child, but you could have another year in high chairs! My little ones are nearly 18 months, and they are nowhere near ready to sit in their Stokke chairs (I bought three of these at a great sale)....I expect our high chairs will still be used for some time yet.

we moved to boosters that strap onto most regular chairs since 16 months....these work great! They eat that the regular table. less clean up.

Ours used theirs until about 2 years old. It was cleaner that way and kept them well contained.

Our singleton was out of his by a year but that was because he wanted to be like his sisters and would sit at the picnic table or in a booster at the table.

Same here! At first, they used the trays that come with them, but now we just have them pushed up to the table. They can reach their food, but are still sitting with us. They can even climb in and out of them themselves, now. They are three years old, but I don't see us getting rid of them anytime soon. Here are the ones we have.

My two singletons used highchairs... not sure till what age though.. but my twins have always used the strap on boosters since they've been sitting up and eating babyfood. They are 27 months and still using them because they are too short to put in a regular chair at the table..My 3 yo still sits on something in the chair in order to reach the table well...

I should also add that, although they dont have any padding or anything to clean around, I do still have to unstrap the seat from the chair in order to wipe any spills or crumbs that have fallen. The chair itself is easy to clean though.

We still use our high chairs. My girls like to roam if I don't seat them, especially if it is a meal they aren't particularly interested in. So, although we don't use them every meal, we still use them at least once a day.

We used strap-on booster seats from 6 months to about 2 years (we got rid of the tray around 18 months), and then switched to Stokke chairs. However, for 19 bucks each, if you really hate your current high chairs, I say go for it.

We have these and have been using them since 4 months for bottle feeding (they recline). The back comes off and we'll be using them as boosters in the next few months. I still use them in the recline position for morning and nighttime sippy cups. They do collect crumbs, but I'm able to get them quickly with the handheld vac.

We have adustible chairs that slide up to the table. We never had anything else. They still use them at 4, just lower and without the 3 point infant harness. Clean up is a breez. When they were babies I just took off the seat cushion/harness part and shook it out, and threw them in the washer as needed. We stopped using those around two when they were able to climb up into them. They lower down as far as regular chairs and are rated for up to 75lbs so there is no need to get rid of them anytime soon. They were expensive, but hey, we've already gotten 4 years of use out of them.

We still use our high chairs. If we didn't- they'd never eat! They are too busy doing and just get down and say all done (we tried!) I have heard that it is possible at 2 1/2 for most kids- most likely singletons!!! I think if you found chairs that are awesome for that price- GET THEM!!!! And try to sell yours on craigslist or free ads or the like. You might be surprised at how much you can make on your old ones!!!
