How late did you wait to introduce baby food?

My boys are 5 months old and I am bfing. They get bottles every once in a while too. With my older ds I could not wait until he turned 4 months to start introducing solids, but this time around I am in no hurry. Honestly we are just getting to a good point with the sleeping routine, I just need a break. Selfish, I know. I just can't imagine trying to start something new right now.

I know that until they are 1 year old, it is only for practice anyways. I would not be waiting if they have a weight issue or if their ped recommend we start now.

I am curious to hear from others who waited past the 4-6 months period and when you did introduce solids.

    Thanks!

ET bc I cant spell!

I waited until ours were almost 8 months old... I, too, breastfeed. Part of my reason for waiting was selfish too... my goodness, solid feeding takes a long time, and is messy! I work from home part-time and we were extremely busy and I was about working full time hours when they were 6 and 7 months old... anyway, I will say that by the time ours started they took to it with gusto and never looked back. I might not wait until 8 months with another child... but I do think I would wait until after 6 or 7 months... yep, no rush, its just for practice.

just take your time and enjoy those babies!

I waited until they were 6 months. I think Evan was actually 6 months and a week. For me it was a lot of work. They were fine on my milk. It was just something else to do! LOL My dd actually went on a solids strike from age 7-10 months. She's a solid girl and will eat most everything.

Mine were 6.5 months. We tried at 6 months because we thought we were supposed to (though I had no desire to) and both babies still had a strong gag reflex, so we waited a couple of weeks and then tried again.

FWIW, it turned out not to be as bad (logistically) as I had feared, once we got into the routine. But we were lucky that they got 3 solid feedings at daycare (after we worked up to that many), so on most days I only fed them breakfast. We didn't start "dinner" until around 9 months.

Mine were ~8 months, but we went very slowly, and they didn't get two full meals until 9 months. Part laziness and no need, as the others said. When we first tried it, they weren't that interested in it. We had just moved, and it was much easier to just let them nurse or have EBM from a bottle.

Now, at 10.5 months, they eat a good assortment of purees and finger foods, although my DS is a bit pickier than my older one was.

With my older kids I started at 5 months, with Luke & Lila I waited until 6 months, but I see no harm in waiting even longer than that if you want. Likely, they will just pick it up more quickly at an older age anyway. If you are happy & they are happy with the way things are right now, I would wait.

I waited until the twins were 6.5 months old, and also because I was slightly lazy. :) I knew they were healthy, getting enough nutrients and still gaining weight on breastmilk.

They don't recommend it here before 6 months and I probably won't be in any hurry like you. We are already soooo busy juggling feeds I can't imagine introducing solids yet either!! If I could skip it all together and just one day hand em a burger that would be heaven!

I was so happy that they were finally nursing well that I waited too. I waited until they were 6 months adjusted age so 7-1/2 months old.

Mine are EBF and we started foods at 6 months. We didn't get into a regular schedule for about 3 weeks but now we do 3 'meals' a day most days. I found that keeping feeding times regular helped regulate their digestive systems and now they somehow know when it is mealtime and they get very excited about it. I am still nursing as often as before though. Sometimes they eat tons and other times just a little. Sometimes they don't like. We are letting them take the lead and not worrying if they don't eat- especially since we have not cut back on BM.

Mine have been such good sleepers at the 4 month mark that I've always been too chicken to try solids - what if cereal stops them up and makes them wake up in the night, etc. I've not had a problem waiting until 6 months in the past ... I wouldn't worry about it. How many pre-schoolers or kindergarteners do you know that go to school on liquid nutrition only? They will be just fine!
