How good of an idea is it to start a business based on 3D printing?

In my city, there’s not much related to 3D printing at all. But I see people in other places opening 3D printing studios or small-scale production. So I’d like to know more about how realistic it is to work with 3D printing and actually earn something from it.

 

To me, this type of business seems kinda risky. On one hand, the niche seems pretty open, but at the same time, you really have to understand your audience and create something unique that gets people interested. It’s easy to fail, honestly, and the investment is big.
