How do you measure how far ahead you are??
Is this something the Dr. measures or can you do it at home?
    Thanks

It's the measurement of the top of the pelvic bone (top of the pubic hairline for most) to the top of the uterus. Sure you can measure at home, you just need a nice tape measure like for sewing.
I have always measured ahead. Even with a single pregnancy.
Sometimes I ask what it is just for the laugh.

Where would be the top of the uterus? lol...

I've measured from my pelvic bone to where the "bump" ends and it's 24cm... I'm only 12wks, is that too far ahead!? On my last u/s (11wks), the tech assured me that there was only one baby, but I wasn't convinced because she was quick and didn't do a transvaginal, which is how they were able to spot both embryos at 8wks (they didn't show up with the transabdominal at the 8wks u/s, only with the transvaginal).

    Thanks!!! ;)

Are you lying down when you measure? I usually measured 6-8 weeks ahead.

I was standing up, which I think is why I got such a high number...

My peri never did that measurement, but then I never really got big. Most people expected me to look way bigger than I did, I always got a surprised look at how "normally" pregnant I looked. :)

Should I measure while lying down? How do I know where the top of my uterus is? lol

yes, measure lying down. and you find the top of your uterus by pressing down till you feel what's like a hard shelf? at 12 weeks it won't be too far up- start feeling around your belly button or just under it. it's really a more "reliable" measure closer to 20 weeks. and it's generally 1cm per week- so for me I'm 33wks w/ twins but measuring 39-40 weeks (but that's 39-40 for a singleton tummy).

hth, it's fun but it's not entirely reliable, especially in a twin pg.
