How far ahead are you measuring?

Hi ladies, was wondering if your docs are measuring your fundal height and if so, how far "ahead" are you. I am a little puzzled because at my 34-week appt, I measured 37.5 weeks. But my babies' total weight is over 10 lbs (and i'm pretty sure it's accurate because they have measured every week and they are growing pretty steadily). So if I were pregnant with a singleton, I would have a 10-lb baby, plus i have 2 amniotic sacs and 2 placentas. I would think that would put me at 40 weeks at least! But I'm not that big! Where is all that stuff hiding?

One thing i was thinking is, my belly is pretty "wide" - with a baby on each side it is pretty big all over not just in the center, so maybe if i just had one it would be shaped differently.

How far ahead are you ladies measuring?

I am measuring about 5 weeks further along than I am. But from what I read, it is typical for this to suddenly not change or seem to grow if the babies relocate so that your width increases as the fundal height measurements do not take width into account. So with 10lbs of babies in there I would not worry!

i was measured yesterday (fundal height)..i'm 36 weeks and i was measuring at 49 cm....that's 9 weeks overdue! and 13 weeks ahead...yeah...they are also predicting my babies to be BIG...if/when i make it to 38 weeks the doc that is doing the section is thinking they'll be around 7 pounds a piece....at 33 weeks they were measuring 4 pounds even (for jack) and 4 pounds 13 oz for abbey..i have a growth u/s on thursday and we'll see what they are then...if they aren't both over 5 (if not pushing 6) i'll be VERY amazed...these babies are also fraternal and i have 2 placentas (one in front, one in back) and 2 amniotic sacs, so that may be adding to my size...

I was wondering the same thing, my babies are 3.5 lbs each at 30 weeks (yikes!) and yet I'm still only measuring 33 weeks...huh? I have begun to measure myself around the waist to see "how big I am" instead. I have a 51 inch wasit at the moment LOL so I KNOW I'm not small. Plus I am carrying super super low so that may affect things. Try measuring your tummy like I did to see your size another way. ;) I keep asking DH am I bigger than her, am I bigger than her? I know last time I didn't think I was that huge until I saw pictures of me and then I realized wow I was huge!

Up until my last appt I was measuring 4 weeks bigger. This last appt at 22 weeks, he measured me about 28 weeks. I am thinking for the next couple months there will be a big growth spurt. Dr. seemed to feel it was all fairly normal. Its just scary, getting so big, so fast!!

At my 24 week appointment, I was measuring 27 weeks. What I don't understand, is that when I compare pics from my last pregnancy, my belly was about as big at 24 weeks with these twins as it was last time at 36 weeks with a singleton. I'm also starting to get the "when are you due - must be soon" comments from strangers, so I know my belly is looking huge to others too!

At 35 weeks I measured 39 weeks. At 32 weeks I measure 40 weeks. I think it depends on how the babies are laying.

My doc doesnt even measure as he says its pointless with twins. I suppose he would if I wanted him to (out of curiosity) but I'm not sure I want to know -- eek!! :shok:

At my 14 week appt. I measured 20 weeks, that's what set the warning bells off it could be twins. My doc is the same as Sparkles, he doesn,t measure because it is pointless.

The afternoon before I ended up having my twins, at 34wks I measured 41cm. I really did not look that huge - just a basketball up in front! It's amazing that they were tucked in there so tight! I'd have loved to see how they were in there!

I think with twins it isn't very accurate, and they can change position all the time. BUT... I like to know too, when I go to the dr, just for fun! At my 32 week visit last week, I was measuring 41 weeks!! HAHA, I feel like it!! I get another ultrasound in a week and a half, at 34 weeks and will get to see what their estimated weights are. At 30 weeks my boy was 3lb6oz and my girl was 3lb8oz. I know they have grown, because I am gaining weight and my belly is getting sooo big!!

My peri never measured fundal height, he just did a quickie U/S at each visit. But I never looked big. Everyone always told me they "thought I'd be bigger" when they saw me. Everyone carries differently. I would not worry if your doctor isn't worried.

Thanks ladies - it's fun reading everyone's measurements. We're all so different. My doc just measures me for fun, we do an ultrasound every time to get the babies' weights. I have just heard about women measuring 55 and 58 and I'm wondering if that is still in store for me over the next few weeks, or what! I guess time will tell : - )

Just wanted to add mine! Today at my 23 week 3 day appt I was measuring 35 weeks! :shok: I knew I was out growing my clothes, but I didn't think I was that far ahead!

Exactly my measurements too!!! For 34 weeks I've been at that same fundal height since 32 weeks. My concern is that I"ve stopped growing there. I"m about 5'8 175 ish. Maybe if your tall height affects it as well. I certainly feel wide, there's no doubt about that! I don't think I"m gonna gain much on my fundal height, maybe if it doesn't grow anymore you've hit a plateau.
