    hey all :)
my wife is around 14 weeks now and she went for an ultrasound at some place that does ultrasound pictures. She asked them about the sex and they said it looks like 2 girls. I told her I thought it was still too early to tell and that we should wait for 20 weeks to make any buying decisions. Can they be 100% at 13 weeks? Can a boy blossom late?

    thanks

I got my first ultrasound at 13 weeks and they told me 100% girl and 98% boy.
I didn't go back for an ultrasound until 20 weeks and they told me that it was 100% boy.

I don't know when exactly a boys "balls drop" but I have a feeling it is around now for your wife.
I wouldn't go out and buy all girly things but the next ultrasound should be able to tell you 100%

We were told about 14 weeks that we were having 2 boys. Whether or not they can develop later I don't know, but ours were definetely identifiable around 14 week ultrasound. Hope that what you want to hear!!

Why are you afraid of having 2 girls? They thought that we were having boys at a 11 week appt. but we didn't confirm it until our 15th. I think it it easier when you are dealing with boys. I have known women who were told that they were having a girl and then had a boy. So I guess it can happen but it also may not. I would get use to the fact that you may be having 2 girls. If she has as many ultrasounds as I did she will get confirmation soon enough.
    Anyways, Congratulations daddy!

I was told at my 13w u/s that the tech thought Baby B was a boy, looked a little thick between the legs. At my 17w3d u/s it was confirmed A was girl and B was a boy. Obviously we didn't paint any walls or buy clothes after we were told that, but it was interesting to find out and think B might be a boy, I didn't take too much stock in it at the time, but she was right.

Here is a thread where someone asked if sex could be determined at the 12w scan and there are two pages of answers.

We had an u/s at 16 weeks...We were told boy for A and they couldn't confirm B.

A friend did an u/s on us a week later...She confirmed A but said B she was 85% sure it was a girl-but had difficulty saying so. We do have a perfect picture of the 3 lines indicating girl....

    At 20 wk u/s...the sonographers/doc could not officially say boy/girl on B

At 24 wk u/s-it was confirmed boy on B.

If I remember correctly-the sac doesn't drop until later in the pregnancy...Late 20's-30 weeks...

All I know is my boys' balls dropped at 20 weeks. I have a close up 8 1/2 x 11 of them.
    Haha, don't ask.

Personally I wouldn't trust someone at one of those places to be good enough to tell for sure at 14 weeks..if it were a trained tech at an office then maybe..but unless you know the sonographer's qualifications they might not have much experience doing them.

We got a guess this time around at 11 weeks which was wrong... at 15 weeks they knew it was a girl. With my first dd the guess at 12 weeks for "girl" was right... with my twins they wouldn't guess at 11 weeks..but at 15 weeks got both genders right on..b/g. Still these were with trained techs at a doctor's office...that might make a big difference in accuracy.

    He didn't say he was afraid of having 2 girls{?}

it IS very early. It's easier to accidentally mistake girls than boys, sometimes boys' parts don't "descend" until more like 16 weeks.
If they told you 2 boys, I'd believe them, but 2 girls that early, I wouldn't bet all my $ on it.

At 13 weeks they could tell for sure we had one boy...but it took till 17 weeks to tell the other was a girl. Generally boys are easier to identify.

it's too early to be painting the nursery . . . I mean, it may turn out that they were right, but it's just too soon to be sure.

There is one user on here that was told boy/girl at I believe around 15 weeks and later found out it was 2 boys...so you just can't be sure!!! Of course there is always those stories of that happening later too... I wouldn't put 100% into anything. I had a cvs test that told me 2 boys and we had boy/girl...so I personally don't trust it till I am holding them in my arms!!

    Good luck and congrats!

I saw a penis at my 12 week scan, but was told "its too early to know for sure..." sure enough, by twenty weeks, both boys were proud to show off their "bidness"

Ha ha, that was me! :rotflmbo:

At 15w4d Baby A was "almost certainly" a girl (we even saw the three lines of the labia/vagina) and Baby B was "probably" a boy.

Well, at 19w4d, Baby A was most certainly NOT a girl, and Baby B was definitely a boy. All we can figure is the three lines we saw in the earlier u/s were a cross section of the cord (three blood vessels run through it) that baby A was sitting on which obscured his penis. We have had many scans since then and we definitely have two boys.

It's not really a matter of the testicles descending -- the scrotum is still visible before the testicles descend into them (which I believe isn't until around 5-6 months gestation that it occurs). The genitals are differentiated by about 12-13 weeks, but it can still be hard to tell -- even later u/s have been wrong!

Anyhow, I wouldn't paint yet. I'd definitely wait until closer to 20 weeks when they are a bit bigger and things are easier to see. :)

We found at at 11 weeks that we were having twins and at 15 weeks we found out tht they were both boys. Are yours identical or fraternal because that could make a difference too. If theyre believed to be ID, then they're prolly both girls...either way, good luck and congrats.

  23. I found out at 15 weeks that I was having boy's, With my singleton I was told I was having a girl and then at 18 weeks I found out he was really a boy. This is wha the u/s tech told me, She has never seen a boy change to a girl, but has seen a girl change to a boy. Hope this help's!!

We were told Baby A was a boy at 13 weeks, but they couldn't tell on Baby B. We didn't really take much stock in it, because I thought it was WAY too early ... at our 20 week, A was confirmed to be a boy and B was confirmed to be a girl.

You can never be 100% sure, ever.

They usually won't tell you until about 16 weeks since it is still very questionable until then.

Congrats on your babies!! (whatever gender they may be!)

I was another one told boy/girl at a 20 week ultrasound. But it was the OB himself who told me this (in stressful circumstances). Believe it or not, a tech would probably have done better! :D I had two beautiful boys...

I also had a neighbour who had several US during a singleton pregnancy and was expecting a boy...I don't know how they missed that this baby was a girl! I thought it happened the other way aorund, but not from boy to girl! :icon_eek:

I went at 15 weeks and they were 100% sure on one boy...and the other one they said MAY be a boy, but weren't sure. We went back at 19 wks and DEF. two little boys! I think they somewhat know by about 15 weeks, but just don't like to say for sure b/c there is still margin for error. 13 wks sounds kinda early, but I'm not a doctor. Hope this helps ya!
