How does your 2 year old eat their hot dog?

We've always cut their hot dogs into quarter sized pieces. We had grilled hot dogs for dinner last night, and I just cut them in half size pieces since they are big 2 year olds now. But Grace kept pointing at mine (on a bun) and Lily said "hot dog bread" so I'm thinking that at daycare they must be eating them whole on a bun...I'll have to ask when I pick them up.

Does your 2 year old eat their hot dog whole on a bun, or do you still cut it up?

They just started with a bun when DS1 started baseball practice and a parent brought them for dinner. I wasn't too sure but they did great. DS1 didn't want a bun until he was almost 3. He liked it cut up.

We haven't done it on a bun yet, but I just cut it in half and let them take bite, I don't cut it up for them anymore.

I've tried it on the bun but they will not eat it that way. They prefer quarter size pieces with dip dip sauce (ketchup) and a bun with a piece of lactaid cheese on the side. It's like they don't realize it's still a hot dog and a bun.

I've never seen mine eat a hot dog :D (they essentially won't eat meat at home) but I think at daycare they probably cut them in half lengthwise. I know Amy & Sarah usually prefer to eat things "whole" when possible, but I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable giving them a whole hot dog yet. OTOH, I did just (this weekend) stop cutting grapes in half, and no one's choked yet....

I've read on several different occasions that the two single biggest choking-hazard foods for babies and toddlers are grapes and hot dogs. They're just the perfect size and shape to get caught in their little throats. So I'd say it's better to err on the side of caution.

I quarter them. They still love to eat them that way

We used to just cut the hot dogs up in very small bite sizes. Now they want them in the bun. So I break the bun in half and they bite away. The like the bread now!

They aren't quite 2 yet, but I still either cut them into small pieces or long skinnny ones. I'm terrified of choking.

My two HAVE to eat it on a bun. If they see us eating a certain way {pizza, hot dogs, etc.} they can't eat it cut up. Though I still cut it in half and only give them one side of the hotdog bun. :)

Cut up. With the bun on the side. They like to eat both!

Mine are probably the only kids in the world that don't like hot dogs/

This weekend, I tried cutting it up like an octopus (basically cutting it in quarters but leaving the tip together for the head). I at least cut it up in half or quarters. They aren't really big into hotdogs either. They would much rather eat veggies and fruit.

I cut them up. I cut the dog in half and then cut those slices. We are still a little paranoid witht he choking thing and Lorien is not a great chewer.

For the most part I cut them in half length-wise since hot dogs can be choked on so easily. DS did eat a reg. hot dog in bun recently and it went well, but until they are a bit older, for the most part, they will be cut. At home I cut them into little pieces too!

I still cut them into pretty small pieces...they have no interest to have it on a bun, anyway.
