How do your twins differ?

I have been wanting to ask everyone how their twins differ?!

I dont know to be concerned or to just let things be. My perception of twins have been greatly change since giving birth to them. I though tthey would have so many things in common at an early age. I thought they would be doing the same things at the same time or be lifting their heads at the same time, or noticing each other at first sight.

Now I see that twins are not or do not have to be mirror images of each other.

Like Isaac from the moment that they pulled him out of me. He has been really really alert, looking around trying to follow people or images around, hooding his head up in the hospital, and really taking in his surrounding.

Isabelle she is really different. In the hospital she slept constantly. She sleeps alot. She also coos more often then and before Isaac has.

Will they keep on being this different or as they get older things change. I know somethings will change but what about your twins.

My boys are different, too. They are both very good babies, but different. As different as can be.

First of all they don't share the same birthday.
Oliver was born 4.5 hours earlier on the 21st of September and that makes him a summer baby. He is 2lbs heavier, laid back, cooing constantly, eats and sleeps a lot. Very alert when awake, does not like to be held very long and falls asleep on his own. Dream baby, sort of movie like.

My "little one", Eddie was born on the 22nd of September, and that makes him a fall baby. He is awake more, also very alert. Eats less, needs patting when falling asleep, or rocking sometimes. Very outgoing personality, smiles at everyone, he is a true charmer I would say. But when he wants attention, his scream would wake the dead up!

But truth to be told I enjoy having two boys with different personalities.

How are they not different! LOL!

Lia- cried like you cut her toe off for the first 7 months! Took longer to do things like role over, hold her head up, and now crawl. Hated belly time! She HATES her head touched (so does Milo, she has a lot in common with her older brother Milo)! Very good at problem solving! No delay in processing. Now she is Patient when she is trying to do something. She is NOT a cuddlier but LOVES to be held. Now, she is such a sweat heart. Her smile lights up the room! Thumb sucker. Like to do things her way, like she has to have a spoon when I feed her so she can feed herself too. Stranger danger! Momma's girl. Very texture sensitive. Can scare easily. We actually had to hide some toys because they freak her out! Loves balls. I could go on.

Colin- Has been easy going and quite from day one. He does startle easily. Loved belly time. Rolled over, held up head, cood, crawled early. Not so much a problem solver, doesn't have the patience for it. If it needs focus or thought he moves on. Big cuddler! Loves to be loved on. No stranger danger. More like his older sisters. Always moving! Loves to play with his older siblings and always in the middle of stuff. A whiner when he's not getting his way. And much bigger then Lia. He's not a big thumb sucker, but he loves to hold a blanket when he is sucking his thumb. He likes exploring different textures. Again, could go on.

My girls are now the same exact size, but soooo different.

Kaydence has a temper like you wouldn't believe. She is determined to sit up and has a fear of men with deep voices. She also thinks it's HILARIOUS when I sing Christmas songs. She has just learned to spit and thinks its a blast to spit out cereal, gas drops, and tylenol. She loves to squeal like a happy little pig and sticks her tongue out all of the time.

Charlotte is a mama's girl. If she hates bottles and would prefer to live on the breast. She doesn't like dogs and would break her neck if that meant she could look at the tv. She is my better sleeper by far. She also loves to talk to her daddy on the phone. I will hold the phone up to her and she will babble while he talks to her for like 15 minutes.

Neither of my girls really like to cuddle which makes me a little sad. It's good that they can fall asleep alone, but a good baby cuddle is always awesome!

"My perception of twins have been greatly changed since giving birth to them. I thought they would have so many things in common at an early age."

That's the big perception that turns into a misperception. They may be twins, fraternal or identical, but foremost they are individuals as I am soon finding out about my identical girls. I have to say though, they seem to do mostly the same things, and act the same way so far. But usually they do the same things at different times, not in unison anyway. They've hit the same milestones close to the same times.

They definitely notice each other, especially when one has what the other one wants. They are equal opportunity bullies when it comes to push and shove. :aggressive: :aggressive: They haven't displayed that twin bond as of yet, right now they are two babies fighting for top seed. :catfight: :bump:

But they are just the sweetest little girls, they are happy most of the time! :D :D

I've so been meaning to post this very question for the past 6 months.

    Where do I begin...

Kemper is moody and slower to meet milestones. Has issues with every bottle we've tried. LOVES CEREAL and veggies, basically anything you put in that mouth. He still isn't sleeping through the night. Has a smile that goes from ear to ear. Is rolling over. Has the biggest, floppy head of any baby I've seen. Built like a brick sh%t house, at almost 18 lbs (much like his older brother was...stacked!!) Goes 4 hours max before he's 'starving to death. Has blonde hair. Sleeps alot. Could sleep at a rock concert. Ticklish

Gavin is happy and quick to meet milestones. Eats like a champ, with no drama. By eat, I mean bottles, isn't fond of solids, yet. Has slept through the night since 3 months old. Has a great smile and an irristible giggle and laugh. Not rolling over yet. Can sit unassisted for short periods of time. Lighter than Kemper, though only a 1 lb difference. Goes all night long, and wakes up happy and talkitive. Could go almost all day without sleeping. Wakes at the slightest noises, like his big brother SCREAMING... grrrr. Has dark dishwater brown hair. Can be uber sensitive and gets upset when scared.

I'm sure I could go on and on, but I can't thnk of anymore right now. It's amazing how different they are...even by their looks. Sure makes things interesting!!!

Mine are like night and day!

Jacob is full of energy, always on the go, has very high muscle tone, very picky eater, pukes and poops a lot, very nosey and always wants to know whats going on. Chats often and is always full of smiles. He was the little guy and he has proven to be the fighter.

Wyatt is easy going, slow to move, low muscle tone, will eat anything and everything you put infront of him all day long, often constipated, hardly pukes, doesn't make much eye contact and is content playing by himself. He is starting to give us more smiles. So layed back and easy going.

Lots of people don't even believe they are bothers

Fun survey! I am taking in the differences between my two guys as well. So far I call Walter my "Boob-man" b/c that is where he likes to reside! He can fall asleep and stay asleep on his own, however, he does not like to entertain himself. John I call my "cuddle-bug" b/c he needs to cuddle to fall asleep and needs to always seem to be near a body to stay asleep. He does not breastfeed as well and seems to prefer bottles. However, he can entertain himself for longer periods just bopping around on the playmat and looking at things.

I have boy/girl twins. They are 6 months old.

My boy is HUGE! He eats a lot and is very consistent about it. He is a great sleeper at night but not very good with naps. He LOVES to be held and cuddled. Every time he wakes up from a nap he cries his heart out until he is picked up. He is very predictable with his nighttime feeding usually 4ish unless he is sick.

My girl is SMALL! She loves to snack all day, food is just a necessity. Sometimes I have to hold her down to get her to eat. She can only be held facing out. She just talks and talks all day long. She has a great time just being by herself playing in her activity center. She takes pretty good naps but at night she is unpredictable. Her nighttime feeding can happen from midnight to about 4ish. When she wakes up she doesn't usually cry she just talks of course. Sometimes during naptime she just talks for about 20-30 minutes before she goes to sleep.

    They are awesome!

My first thought when I read the topic title was, "It would make more sense to ask "How are your twins alike?".

That would be a much shorter response for me. My DS actually reminds me more of my older DS when he was his age. My DD is totally different than any of my boys, and I have a feeling she always will be.

What they have in common - they both love to drink mommy's milk, breast or bottle. They both love attention and being read to. They both love Peek a Boo and being sung to. They both chew on everything. I can't think of much else, and I think all the things I listed go for pretty much all 8.5 mo olds.

The differences, another story: She won't sit, he'll sit for hours. She likes solids, finger foods - he gags, and throws them on the floor. She goes everywhere in a walker, he stays still. She likes to sleep, he fights sleep tooth & claw. She rarely cries, he cries if you talk too loud. On and on and on...

Mine too are like night and day and have been since day 1!!!

I agree with pp that writing the ways they are the same would be a way shorter list, and at the moment the only ways that I can think they are the same is the fact that they share the same birthday & they have the same parents!

Sydney was born first and weighed slightly more then Colin. She is a perfect little angel who is content to just lay on the floor or sit in the bumbo seat and watch me. She's borderline lazy and has no desire to do anything! She's also very sensitive and hates a lot of noise or a change of scenery. She can't stand when her older brother gets in her face or talks loud to her. With everything she does she is a good 3-4 weeks behind her brother and sometimes more. But she does "talk" more often.

Colin wants to get up and go and is pissed off all the time that he can't. He looks at his older brother and you can see in his eyes that he wants to play. He laughs way more often and loves when there is a lot going on! He's also way more needy....God forbid if he sees me pick up his sister!!

Colin is way more interested in Sydney then she is in him. And as far as appearances go, they barely look like brother and sister much less twins!! At their 4 month check up Colin weighed in at 14 lbs 14 oz and Sydney weighed in at a mere 12 lbs 12 oz. Colin has dark hair and an olive skin (we're still trying to figure out who he looks like) and Syndey has super fair skin and blonde hair.

Sydney is a little mama's girl and hates when someone else is holding her if she can see me or hear my voice. Colin will let anyone hold him.

I have b/g twins and they are very different too. I have one very happy baby, my boy Jackson. My little girl Jaelyn is a spitfire and is rarely happy lol.

Jackson loves the boob and could eat forever, Jae eats in about 10 minutes and won't have any more after that. Jackson smiles and coos all the time, Jae is usually more serious and doesn't "talk" as much as her brother.

They both still weigh and measure very close in size though. The funny thing, they are exactly like what they were in my womb. Anyone else find that?

Jackson was so good, always head down and cooperating for all the ultrasounds etc. Jae was either breech or transverse and ended up being the reason why I ended up with a c section after giving birth to her brother vaginally. She was always the one they had to chase to get her measurements or heartrate etc too. She has been my troublemaker from the beginning. ;)

My b/g twins are very different too. But all my kids have had their own "quirks" since birth. My boys are more similar, and my girls are more similar, but overall they are all individual little people

    For my twins:
Liam: rolled over at 5 wks old for the first time. More alert. More body strength. Easy going. Crawled at 6 months. Pulled up at 7 months. Furthur ahead in physical milestones. About 3 lbs lighter than his sis (he was 18.6lbs at his 9 month check).

Rylee: Slower to wake up. Coo'd first and more often. More high maintenance. Colic and Reflux. Rolled over much later. Didn't crawl until 8.5 months. Nowhere near pulling up. But more social than her bro. Has developed stranger anxiety the last couple weeks. More fearful of new things (terrified of the christmas tree). Heavier than her bro (she was 21 lbs at 9 months).

aside from them being boy/girl? um, jack HATES carrots, abbey will eat them happily...jack is usually the calmer one, though he's teething so he's been fussier than abbey, it's like they take turns in that area...jack has two bottom teeth and i think his top ones are cutting..abbey has none...jack prefers to look at objects in motion, abbey wants to watch people...jack likes being bounced or swung, abbey wants music or singing..jack is picky about what he'll eat...abbey will eat pretty much whatever you give her...jack keeps down pretty much everything he is fed..abbey has reflux and is the pooka princess..don't burp her unless you cover yourself first, we use receiving blankets when burping her...jack is ticklish, abbey is not...jack is a bruiser boy, abbey, while not far behind weight wise, her build is dainty..she has smaller hand, longer fingers, smaller feet, things like that...they are both very socially interactive..both cooing...both rolled over for the first time on the same day, so for ,ilestones they are about equal

Mine have always been different sizes, Zoe 1-2 lbs bigger than Xavier since birth. Initially they were both colicky and both mommy obsessed but as soon as they grew out of the colic they have shown their personalities.

Zoe: very laid back, likes to play on her own, doesn't cuddle unless tired and then is a cuddle bug. Slower to talk and smile and still very selective as to who gets to see her do it. Shy, loud noises scare her, daddy's girl, independent, likes to hold the bottle and gets distracted easily when nursing

Xavier: never stops moving, when he's happy his whole body smiles, huge belly laughs, squeals and talks constantly, flirts with everyone, mommy's boy, could live on the breast all day long

I think it is so fun to see the different personalities!!!!!
