How do your kids wait to eat in the AM?

Nearly every morning the boys wake up, they wake up ready to eat NOW. DH and I are rushing to get their diapers changed and get them fed before the crying starts. And, they get frantic when they see their bottles. It's pitiful. I feel bad that they are starving. I see a lot of schedules where babies are waking and not eating for 30 minutes to 1 hour later. What are we doing wrong? Not feeding them enough during the day? They are getting 3 bottles of 8 oz each, 3 meals (about 5 of the 4 oz jars of food)...in other words a LOT of food. And this has happened every morning of their lives (including months where they were getting just as many solids AND 32 oz of formula). They self weaned to 3 bottles about a month ago.

Note: We are trying to figure out how to keep Jonah dry during the night. He's waking up wet nearly every day. He's not always the one waking up crying though. Normally it's Morgan. So that's a little side issue which creates crying in the morning. However, even when dry, they act like they are starving.

Any suggestions? It makes for a nervewracking morning if we don't get their bottles to them fast enough. How can we change their morning disposition? Is it just my guys?

I dont really know of anyway to change them being starving in the morning since ours are the same as yours. They want to eat the second they wake up. Luckily (for me) DH is usually the one who wakes up with them in the morning. He has learned to make their bottles before even going into their room to get them. And he usually waits until they have had their first bottle before changing their diapers. So I guess thats really my only suggestion is to make the bottles before even going in to get them in the morning and waiting until after their bottle to change diapers. Unless of course they have soaked through because then you really cant wait.

Oh mine are big on now too. I usually give them a sippy cup (at 9 months it was a bottle) when they first get up to take the edge off and within an hour, they usually have breakfast.

Mine want to eat right away also. But, mine aren't big eaters to begin with!

Trying going up a size in the diapers for the one that is wetting. Every time mine wets several nights in a row, I go up a size and then it stops. Hope that helps...

Mine go crazy for that first bottle too. I get them up change them and then downstairs for a bottle. If I did it any other way, they would be flipping out.

My girls were wetting through the Swaddlers and Cruisers so we do the Huggies Overnights and haven't had a wet morning in months.

yup, mine are the same too. zachary is crying bloody murder as i make his bottle. mallory used to be as bad, but seems to have gained some patience. i usually change their diaper after they eat now. unless of course they are soaked.

i wonder how they learn so much so quickly (pick up stuff, crawl, their name) how come they haven't figured out that they will be fed every morning ;)

EXACTLY!!! DH and I keep saying "hang on, we swear we're going to feed you". We actually do get their bottles ready before they get up. And due to either soaking wet diapers or poopy diapers (how do they poop while sleeping?), we always change beforehand. I may try the sippy cup route just to give them something right away. That may backfire though since they still want their bottles right now.

We'll see. Thanks ladies! I'm glad to know it's not just my guys who have very little AM patience!! I suppose they get it honest because neither DH nor I are morning people either. :D Shannon

For us we are the opposite - we have absolute craziness at bedtime! Mornings are the best. Yes, they have wet diapers and most of the time poo because they sit up in their beds and play for approx 30mins in the morning and are extremely happy to be picked up. Then they cuddle for a minute or two in my arms (If I put them down right away they fuss) and then I put them on the floor and they play for approx 15 mins while I check emails/weather etc.

My babes are skinny little tarts though. At 9 months they were approx 16 pounds. Perhaps yours are bigger and get hungry faster or maybe they aren't morning people. Mine each sleep in their own room so they don't wake each other, could they be waking each other too early? Do they go to bed early enough? Every baby is different, it is so hard. It is like science experiment. You need to play around with the variables to see if you get a new outcome. Maybe in time it will be different. How about a 'snack' before bed? Maybe put a sippy of water in the bed with the babes when you give the last bottle in the middle of the night that way if they are thirsty the can have a drink to tide them over?

    Good Luck, anyways!

We used to have crazy mornings just like that, but now that they are on more finger foods at 11 months, they aren't as hungry first thing. Maybe there's hope? One thing I do is get their morning bottle ready before we all go to bed. We give them formula straight out of the fridge - I know, I'm awful, but it's worked so far, and then I don't have to worry about warming them up when we are not at home. Their morning bottle is the only one they still drink all of. The going up a size diaper at night is what we do as well, and it works great for us, especially when they are on the higher weight in the lower day size.

I always made sure the first thing I did was feed them. Then I would change them afterwards, it was much less stressful that way, and not all the crying and screaming, LOL

Mine are starving when they wake up too. I generally have everything (solids and bottles) ready before they wake, change them then feed them till they pop! That way we are only stressed during the diaper change.

Mine also act like they havent eaten in days when they wake up! When i am alone in the mornings (5 days a week) i just grab them both and give them a bottle first, once they are content and ready to play with there toys i do diapers one at a time.

Mine were like that too, and I also never understood how some people's babies could wait 30-60 minutes after waking before they wanted to eat. People are just different. I have to eat within half an hour of waking up myself, and DH could go all morning without anything but coffee.

It got much better for us around a year. They still get breakfast pretty much right away, but they don't literally wake up screaming for it. They will wake up and chat/play/fuss in their cribs while DH and I get breakfast ready. Then when we pick them up and take off their sleep sacks, they trot off to the dining room and climb into their high chairs.

It's always nervewracking when your babies (or toddlers  ) are screaming for something and you're already getting it as fast as you can. I try to take deep breaths and even slow down a little, because it won't make any difference to them, and it makes me feel less stressed about it. But anyway, you're not doing anything wrong!

They are still up at night and they eat at around 5:30 - 6 every morning then again at 9 am. If they are sleeping through maybe they are starving?

I'm going to go up to the size 6 diapers and see if that will a) stop the soaking wet morning diaper and b ) allow us to wait to change them. My guys are only 21 lbs and having to go to a size 6!?! WTH!!! LOL

Thanks ladies! I'm just happy to know our family isn't the only one rushing to eat. I'm grateful they are sleeping thru the night (from 7-8 pm to 6-7 am), so I'm sure they are hungry upon waking. Just would appreciate a tiny bit of patience considering they usually need a diaper change. :D

Same babies here. I nurse first thing and then change diapers afterwards (unless soaked or poopy). Also, my older child is usually still asleep for first baby wakeup and I'm REALLLLY trying to make sure it stays that way! I've got a lot vested in keeping the twins quiet in the morning.
