....wake a baby from a nap? The boys doctor told me to wake them an hour before they are suppose to eat. There are up in the middle of the night and don't want to fall back a sleep. So she told me to wake them. So how do you wake a baby? I have tried everything and nothing seems to work.

    Thanks!

I never had to wake mine up, and the few times I tried, I had no luck, and basicailly gave up. I as told if you start undressing them, they will get cold, and start to wake up. Good luck, and I'm sure you will get some really good advice from others that have had more luck then I did.

At that age it is really hard to wake a baby up. They seem dead to the world.

What I would do was uncover them so they weren't so snuggly warm and sometimes I would tickle their feet. That would usually get them to open and eye or two.

an hour before they are supposed to eat? Why is this? I believe that the more they sleep during the day the better they sleep at night. I had to wake mine in the first few weeks to make sure they were eating but I would start 15 minutes before. I would undress them and change their diaper and then hold them out in front of me...then I just worked hard at keeping them awake to eat. I also resorted to a warm wet wash cloth at times...it's hard to keep a sleepy baby awake. Starting week three...they did not need me waking them anymore.

I didn't wake mine an hour before - but I did wake them to eat. Mine ate every 3 hours on the dot - and it worked - they were sleeping 7am-7pm w/o any wakings at 3 months and 1 week. I would imagine it's hard to wake them one hour before - what are you supposed to do -keep them up for an hour? Seems odd. At 2 weeks just staying awake for an hour at a time seemed hard. Heck mine are four months and they only stay awake for an hour and a half at a time. Good luck. Hope that helps!!

I used to wake the second baby after the first baby woke to keep them in the same groove in terms of sleeping and eating. I felt mean physically waking them so I used to unswaddle, open the blind, turn off the white noise machine - they usually got the hint within a few minutes.

I'm glad you got some advice from your doctor. It's not exactly what I did. Instead of keeping them up before they ate, I kept them up after. I read The Baby Whisperer and followed her 1. Eat 2. Activity 3. Sleep system. It worked well for me. For newborns that "activity" part can be as simple as a diaper change, a snuggle, and staring at a ceiling fan for a few minutes.

i don't - if i REALLY have to feed a sleeping baby, I just pick him up and pop the bottle in his mouth. It always works. he eats well and goes right back to sleep.

Thank you ladies for all the advise. I am going to see what works. They boys usually eat at 6pm then again a little after 9pm. My husband then puts them to bed around 10:30 but one of them doesn't want to go to bed. So I get up with him and I am usually up until 2:30 in the morning. He acts like he is hungry again after 2 hours. So the doctor said fed, change and then put him to bed. If he cries just let him cry. So the doctor suggested that I wake them up an hour before they need to eat in the day. So maybe they will learn they need to sleep at night and not as much during the day. It is hard having their nights & days mixed up. I don't have any help at night because my husband needs his sleep because he works over an hour away from our house and we don't have any family by us. So some nights are harder then others.

    Thanks again ladies!

Are they seriously underweight? If they aren't, I would just wake them when it was time to feed. Not sure what good waking an HOUR before they are to be fed does? In the middle of the night that seems awfully extreme!!

You could use a warm washcloth and give their faces a little wash or something to see if that brings them to. But again....not sure an hour is going to be a good idea! Then you'll have an hour of screaming and crying for what?

eta.... sorry, just read the explanation above my post!
