how do you transition from bottle to sippy cups?

Hi...My two are 11 months. They still get 3 bottles a day and have sippy cups at each meal with juice or water. They love their sippy cups but not for formula or milk. The sippy's they like best are those first years take n' toss ones that have no valve so they spill everywhere when they wave them around. I've tried several others and they do like the nuby's but they still don't like drinking milk out of them.

Any suggestions on how you got yours to give up the bottle?

    Thanks!

I found with my kids, that if the bottle was still available, they wouldn't drink out of the sippies. Have you tried straw sippies?

I haven't tried straw sippies yet...it's getting expensive trying all these different kinds! I normally keep the bottles in a cupboard so I could always 'take them away' and just give sippies instead. If they refuse it do I give in and give a bottle or just persist and eventually they'll figure out they are not getting anything else?

I just switched them...sounds cold hearted but the griping was done in less than 48 hours. The fact that they are in daycare also helps a ton. No bottles outside of the infant room, so in order for them to move up they had to be able to drink from a regular cup...not a sippy. I didn't have choice...it was messy and we went through a lot of clothes but it only took a couple of days before people were "happy".

    Best of luck to you!

I started mine early like at 6 months. First with no valve, and by 10 months with a valve. They gave up their last bottle at bedtime on their own at 11 months. They only wanted sippies. I guess just keep trying, and if needed just take them away when you are ready.

My two wouldn't even consider taking a sippie til they were after a year old. I tried all kinds too and they only one they liked were the cheap ones. Tupperware kind of cup with the clear plastic lid. They drink milk outta these, and they do leak a bit. DH also found plastic cheap winnie the pooh with the red lids. Also not leak proof, but they don't leak as bad, they drink water outta these all day. I started with one meal usually dinner offering sippies with milk. Then breakfast and lunch. I still warm up the milk in the sippies and gave it to them first thing in the morning. They finally caught on so when they started not drinking a whole bottle at bedtime, cause that's the only bottle they were getting. I just eliminated it and no more bottle! Seems like they didn't even miss them.
I want to say they did give me a little grief at first in the morning, but just stick to it and they'll catch on. Mine were 14 months by the time they even gave sippies a go and stuck with them.

We just went cold turkey when my girls turned 1. I took the bottle away completely and just gave them a sippy cup. They were fine with it - They didn't get a bottle before bed anyway, so they didn't need it to sooth. My son alwasy stopped at 1. They never were attached to the bottle, they used it as a source for food, not a source for comfort so it was easy for them to give it up.

Best of luck - I know some struggle hard -

We started sippees with water and water and a little juice out of the same ones you did. They drank some, and played some, which made a mess. When we got ready to make the total change from bottles, I went with the Gerber ones with valves which I took out at first, but they are back in now. There wasn't any more mess with the valve out than with the take & toss ones. After they got the hang of the new sippy, then I put the valve back in (about 2 - 3 days) and they didn't seem to hardly notice. Mine will drink more water, or water juice than milk still, but I have one twin that is starting to really like milk now. I just watch to make sure they get milk from other dairy foods until they are getting back to drinking milk. Good luck!
