?

Do you sing an "and" before Z?

  1. W..X..Y..AND..Z.

So when I sang the ABC's with my oldest DD, I sang it "W..X..Y..AND Z" I realized that for the longest time she thought it was W..X..Y..N..Z (the letter N between Y & Z)

So now I just have a bit of a hesitation and just say "Y..Z" and that's how my littlest ones say it now.

Just wondering how everyone else does it.

Too funny! I say Y and Z and the girls sing it that way too now (with a very exaggerated "AND").

It is funny that you posted this! My husband was singing with the twins, and he uses "w...x...y...z", because he doesn't want them to get confused and think there is another letter in there, while I always sing with the "and". I figure by the time they are old enough to understand the concept of letters, they will be able to recognize the extra word. Plus, it just feels awkward without the "and"!

We used to sing 'and' until we got the Leapfrog Word Whammer and there is no 'and'.

I thought this was going to be a now I 'know' my ABC's or now I 'sang' (is it sang, or sung, I guess you know which one we do ) my ABC's .

That's funny...our DS and DD also sometimes sing it as "...XY...N...Z" or "...XY...M...Z," too. :)

I used to say, "y and z" but two of their toys just have a pause between Y and Z, so now that's how I sing it.

I get the, "Mom, it is also pronounced Zed!" from my 6 year old when she hears me singing it to the little ones. I'm American and would never think of saying Zed. My kids do sing the tail end of it differently. When they were really little I would sing "...w, x, y and z. Now _____( kid's name) heard her ABC's one of these days she'll sing it with me!" And they still sing it that way.

When i was teaching the kids the ABC's their preschool teacher got upset with me for using AND, so i had to make myself quit saying the AND. LOL now we just sing it w,x,y,Z even though I really want to say the ANNNNDD!!!

I sing "Y and Z", but my twins sing "Y Y Z", which I think is cute! They have always heard it the way I sing it, they just want to "y's"!

I had to sing it three times- once with and, once without, and once quickly without thinking about it- I use the "and" when I sing it.

:good: Same here. Someone else had told me that they might say it Y N Z so I've always made sure to say AND very clearly.

I always sing it "y and z" but my boys have learned a slightly different version in school clearly designed to eliminate the eLeMeNO problem.

    They sing (same tune):

    ABCD EFG
    HIJK LMN
    OPQ RST
    UVW XYZ
    Now I never will forget
    How to sing the alphabet

All of my life I have sung the X Y And Z version. BUT now that Addison is singing it and she is so young, I have dropped the and. I did not want her to think that and was another letter between Y and Z so I just dropped it and I also do not sing the now I know my ABCs ending or any other ending besides YAY!!! I just did not want to add anything else to it for her! My older boys do sing the and part but they did not learn the alphabet until they were much older.

When she sings it, it is SO adorable!! When she gets to LMNO P she does her little tongue from side to side and says P - she just laughs and laughs!!! it is the cutest thing ever - I really need to get it on video!!

I have a totally different tune I learned the ABC song to, when my oldest was little. It's just letters, no other words, and is fast and catchy. But sometimes it goes too fast, and when you slow it down so the letters don't tumble on top of each other, it sounds kind of funny. Still, that's what I use mostly when they're learning the letters. They still learn the regular song from grandparents, church nursery, co-op pre-school, etc.
