How do you lay on your left side?

I am not on bedrest (yet <_<) but am supposed to be laying on my left as much as possible. I have been trying so hard, but I find I always wake up on my back or my right. Laying on my let is uncomfortable for me, and I get a very sore back from it.

I put a pillow or a wedge in front of my for my belly, one under my head, one to support my back and one between my knees, and it's still not comfortable. Is there any way to force yourself to stay on your left and can you actually get used to it??

I had a really hard time as well and would usually wind up on my back as well. I just stayed propped with pillows where ever I could. It was not comfortable at all...

I've been having the same problem. I have a body pillow (non preg) on one side and a pillow on the other. This allows me to move from side to side (as you get further along, not only does your back hurt, but your hips too). I was a back only sleeper ppg, but am so big now that it really hurts to lay on my back. My doctor said that although it is best to lay on your left, your body is smart and will alert you to any problems if laying on your back is affecting you. One of my boys is transverse (feet on left side) and the other is head down on the left side. It is SO uncomfortable to lay on the left side as I'm squishing both of them. Good luck and keep trying different positions! I've heard of people sleeping in a recliner for a portion of the preg., but that won't help the laying on the left! HTH!

It's crazy because I was never a back sleeper until now, and I think it's because being on my side is so darned uncomfortable. And I've finished many a night in my recliner -- I need to move it to my bedroom.

My Baby A is lagging in growth and I'm supposed to be eating more and laying on my left to try to help him until I can get in with the peri, so I feel so guilty every time I wake up on my back or my right side.

Ah, Sommer. I hear you on the left side. Luckily I haven't had problems so far except when I've been on my side too long and then my hips ache. Especially when I'm sleeping at night. I hope you find something comfortable for you soon. Hang in there.

Since I was put on bedrest I sleep on the couch. It pretty much confines you to sleep on one side or your back. With the back of the couch having support for your back it was more comfortable. Plus you have less roosm to move around.

I started bleeding in the middle of the night at 22 weeks. So I think I moved wrong or something while I was sleeping. That is why I have moved to the couch.

    Hope this helps.

I agree with pp, you can try laying on the couch or a recliner. Once you get bigger you won't lay anywhere but on either side. You will just have to find what side is most comfortable for you. Lots of pillows around you will help. I hated to lie on my left side so I always did the right side and now that has switched.

Hi Sommer, I was more comfortable in my recliner anyhow. My peri always encouraged me to lay on my left side, but never made a big deal out of it, so I never worked at it that hard. I hope you find a way to stay comfy though. I can't believe you are almost 26 weeks already (I posted a lot at cmoms when you were ttc and have wondered how you were doing!).

    ps...Happy Belated Birthday to Calista!

We rearranged the living room furniture so that I could lay on the sofa on my left and still watch TV. I did that most of the day, so that at night I just tried to be as comfortable as possible.

Does the right side work too? Becasue my back and my tummy kills me on my left and I have no idea why? How do I get all that blood flow to my babies then? My dad bought me 4 huge comfy pillows yesterday becasue I didn't have any good ones, I had those little contour pillows and a big pillow roll and some various other poofy throw pillows.
