Our dd mostly cries if she is not nursing. I can get her to calm down while on the swing and smiles at her "friends" that go round and round, it's cute! BUT, her calming period only lasts so long. Her brother on the other hand is pretty content in the sling, my arms, etc...but she cries while in the sling, being held while walking around, while being rocked, etc...she really only stops crying when I'm nursing her. Is this colick? If it is, what does that REALLY mean? Is there any way to "treat" colick? She also is inconsistent with her sleep patterns. Sometimes she naps but it's usually hard trying to get her to nap. The only way to get her to go down is by nursing. I would love some insight about this and if anyone else has a child that is similar. THANKS!

I don't know what to tell you to help - i am in the same situation. It seems that we are in alot of the same situations. Mine are getting a little better. I have one that is always content unless he's really hungry or has a dirty diaper. Garrett on the other hand will just scream to scream. we've found out that that is what he does when he is overly tired. if i keep an eye on the clock, and start putting him to sleep after an hour of being awake - i can usually get him to sleep before the 2 hour mark preventing the excess screaming. hopefully with age, he will get better. Good luck! Sorry i couldn't help much

I had one colicky baby. She cried Non-Stop except for 5 minutes after eating, then if she was awake she would cry. Very little could calm her down. The only thing that worked was taking her outside and that only worked sometimes. It was a horrible 3 1/2 months...on the bright side...she learned to soothe herself and is now quite independent! That is the only good news. Colic SUCKS...I hope it passes soon.

Colic = 3+ hours of crying a day for 3+ days for 3+ weeks.

Fussiness peaks at 6 weeks (or 6 weeks past the due date) especially in the evening hours.

Colicky babies usually feel better at around 3-4 months of age, that's my understanding.

I don't have a colic baby, but this is some advice I got from a relative at our Christmas party on Saturday. She said to secure your infant's car seat to the washing maching (with duct tape, I suppose, I dunno, she's kind of a hillbilly) then buckle the baby in and start the machine. I guess the combination of the noise and the vibration is supposed to sooth them. When mine get fussy I sometimes put them in the bathroom with the fan on, or if the dishwasher is running I'll set them in front of it.

My one daughter waa very colicky until 4 mos....I could really never soothe her. My mom was the only one who was able to calm her down. I am sure she felt my anxiety....My girlfriend has a 12 week old who has really bad reflux and colic and she uses a white noise machine and it seems to be helping a lot. Good luck and just know that it will end!!!! [IMG]
