How do you keep track of your gloves?

This winter is the first winter my boys have gloves. I'm not sure how they'll go over, but regardless, we've ALREADY lost one once. I remember, as a kid, having a string hook them together through the sleeves but I believe that's a no-no now due to it being a choking hazard, right? I also remember those little clips that clipped to your glove & then to your sleeve, thus keeping the 2 attached.

Anyone have any suggestions or tips on where to buy something to keep our gloves with our coats? I always tuck the hats in the sleeve or the hood, but the gloves seem to disappear....and I can only IMAGINE where they'll wander off to at daycare or something :).

    TIA!

I have a friend who sewed a small piece of velcro to the wrist of each glove and to the sleeve of each coat. She'd then velcro the gloves to the coat whenever they were taken off. I haven't tried this, but she swore by it.

We lost a few pairs of gloves last year too (though we did eventually find some of them again). Personally I would not think the string through the sleeves could be THAT big of a hazard at this age, as long as they're not playing alone in the coat closet. Maybe I'll try it this year.

Daycare is definitely the biggest problem. Especially now that mine are in preschool, there are 15 kids in the class and they're basically in charge of keeping track of their own things. I have to track down jackets, hats, even shoes in other kids' cubbies all the time -- I can't imagine what it will be like with gloves.

Sew or safety pin a length of elastic to each glove and its corresponding sleeve. The glove will stay attached to the sleeve and the elastic will allow enough movement to get the glove on and off. The elastic won't be long enough to pose a hazard. I recommend about a 4 - 6 inch length.

We have done the elastic before. If you're worried about the choking hazard then sewing the gloves to the sleeves is a good idea. The downside to that is you won't be able to switch gloves between coats (if you have more than one) and if you have times when they need the coat but not the gloves you will still have to have them dangling from the sleeves.

Naomi and Luke have these mitten clips. I think they're great; they are really stong (grip-wise) and still easy to put on/take off the coat. I know that's a UK website so here is a link to an American one-they have some cute designs and they're not expensive.

Since we are only outside long enough to walk into the store or out to the van, I don't worry about gloves. I do have the thick insulated ones for playing outside in the snow and I will put their gloves on first then their coats so the wrists on the coat kind of pulls them on and holds them in place.
