How do you groom "down there?"

Sorry if this question is a little weird but I was wondering if you guys have any tips on bikini grooming and shaving your legs when your belly is getting in the way.

I usually trim down there but now I'm finding it nearly impossible as I can't see what I'm doing and I don't dare try shaving! I hate feeling "overgrown", lol. I just don't feel very clean. I was considering going to get waxed but I'm scared because my skin is pretty sensitive. I was going to try waxing after I have these babies and can drink a couple glasses of wine before hand. And now I go a week or two without shaving my legs because its become such an ordeal. I'm not liking it and neither is DH.

    Sugestions or tips?

My poor Husband is gearing up for his duty, with this issue. As with our first born, there comes a time when you just cant do it anymore.... so he stepped up and is a sweetheart for doing it for me! With the twins coming he will have to take over the responsibility a little sooner then later!

    GOOD LUCK! Hehe

Well, if you really want to know...my husband helped me out in that department.

We basically put a towel down and he did the whole shaving cream, shave, wipe off
with wet washcloth, the works! And, uh, yes, helped me with the other part.
I was very concerned about how I would look for my appointments and c-section, ha ha.

My situation was a little different. I was on fairly strict bedrest, so I literally stayed
in the bed on my side and tried to move as little as possible. He did a great job.
You could probably just stand and that would make it that much easier.

I was huge! I remember the first time trying to shave my legs in the shower and it
was not happening. I just started laughing out loud.

DH or waxing were my only options :)
I did shave my legs though (not well...but they were shaved!)

I just told my DH about this post in preparation for time to come. This really put a smile on my face after a morning of, well, you know. He has politely agreed to "take one for the team" when the time comes. LOL!

Hubby does it for me! Again like everyone else he isn't thrilled with the idea, but he does it. I can still sit on the edge of my jacuzzi tub and shave my legs though!

I guess I am in the minority. I always just shaved myself blindly (I just shaved everything TMI). I was in the hospital from 26 weeks on and had to shave in that tiny hospital shower. It was awful. And I shaved everyday because I never knew if I was going to need an emergency c-section.

I can still shave my legs in the tub (although I am sure that I don't do a smashing job) and as for the rest I just trim for now. I am not a very hairy person so the need isn't great, but I know that if you are not on bedrest or anything my esthetician said that a lot of preggos come in for bikini waxing so that is an option as well.

good topic! I can still shave my legs...but not for long. As for the other area I've just let it go for a while, which does make me feel kinda gross, but I think I'm going to talk to dh about him doing it tonight.

Actually, per my perinatologist, you should NOT shave or wax down there- legs are OK, but bikini area is not OK.

How do I know this? He yelled at me when he did a cervix check- he said it is rare but it is possible to get an ingrown hair which can infect and then spread and cause premature labor!

So, I feel your pain, but I'm going au natrelle for now. better safe than sorry. Legs I can still reach myself. besides, am I going to let ANYONE see me in a bikini right now, anyway ;)

I second the 'shave it all blind'. I am sure it is not the best job I have ever done, seeing as how my belly almost overlaps some of that area. Hubby said he would do it if I don't want to. There is also a process called sugaring, which has the same outcome as waxing but is not so harsh on the skin. I am considering getting this done right before my c-section. Maybe one of these times I do it blind, I will ask my hubby to check and let me know how bad it is!!! I can still shave my legs pretty okay, it is hard for me to get all the way over to my left calve, I am right handed.

    Good Luck!

I'm so happy this topic was started! :) I have also found it difficult to shave, but I wouldn't dare ask my DH to do this! He would freak out if he cut me, so I'm not even going to ask! I figure I will just do the bikini thing blind like PP. But remember girls, those dr's have seen it all, after all, when you push you typically push pee and poo out, so what's a little hair going to hurt?!?! :p :D

I shaved blindly also. you can kind of feel your way through it. I couldn't bring myself to having my husband do it. It probably did not look very good and the doctors/nurses probably thought I was crazy, but I had to try.

ummmm, I have a full length mirror, put in the tub, sat on the side and went to work! I use an electric razor, can't stand the in grown hairs, so it's easier and I don't worry about cutting myself.

Same thing with the legs but no mirror.

My DH insisted on giving me a trim down below one day. I'm with pp post on this though, the doc's have seen it all, I'm sure! I asked him to shave my legs the other day, but he didn't do a very good job. He's not use to the razor, uses electric. I'm to the point where I'm not going very many places anyway, so I may as well have wookie legs for now.

I asked this question two years ago now, right before I had my twins.
Looking back, GIVE IT UP!!!! Who cares about a little genital hair? I did not shave in prep for the inducement and then went in and was suprised to need a c-section. They shaved me before. Glad I did not hurt myself trying to shave.

If your peri has not seen it before, or if you fear ever seeing him in a social setting, GET A NEW PERI! He is not a social appointment, he is your key to healthy babies.

Interesting yet superbly practical question!! It is getting increasingly difficult to shave myself down there, and I shave frequently in fear that I might need a c-section or op anytime so might as well make it a habit. Then when it gets tougher to reach or look down, I begin to wonder does anyone bother anymore and just let it grow out of proportion!! Thanks for bringing it up!!! :D

    Thanks for the answers!
I'm a little nervous about asking dh, but at the same time he's making me feel self conscious about it. No way am I shaving down there though, I hate shaving and getting bumps there and I won't be able to deal with that on top of feeling so uncomfortable! Guess I'll just have to tell him to get over it or help me out.

I'm really considering getting waxed regularly after I have the babies as you only have to go in every month or two to do it and all the time it takes for me to shave and groom will be taken up by 2 babies and my kindergardener.

I used a mirror and just did the best I could - My dh is not very gentle I was afraid to get him involved in such a delicate procedure!!

OK funny story!! I shaved all religiously until I was about two months along then I just said forget it, I needed to save my energy. About 6/7 months I just couldn't take it anymore and I knew without a second thought that DH would not help out or take one for the team, so I grabbed his hair clippers and went in blind B) I got one swipe done and then on the next one my belly must have gotten in the way cuz I took and huge chunk out of my stomach  wow did that hurt. I waited until last month to cut the jungle down :a_smil09:

My Dh has offered to step up whenever I can't do it anymore....I shaved blindly all through my last twin pregnancy and so far with this one as well....not sure if I will need DH or not, but I know I am doing a bit of a hack job because it is tender sometimes when I am done....need a new razor ;)

    Good Thread!

Personally, I could care less how much hair I have anywhere...such a chore!

DH is very excited to jump on in when I'm unable. He's never shavin my legs before, so I'm a bit nervous about that...but the other areas...we use an electric clipper, there's no chance of him cutting me, and no bumps (my skin is so sensitive!)

I told him I was thinking of waxing...and I thought he'd cry! hahaha

    Good Luck!

    What an AWESOME thread!
Glad someone asked and so many were willing to share their humorous take on such a delicate subject!
My hubby does it too. He actually doesn't mind since he reaps the benefits for the most part. (He is the only one who can actually see "it" any more LOL)

Bravo to everyone for sharing! I'm still giggling away at this one!
