Right now I still have Noah in the carrier so I can carry him in that and hold Aiden (he outgrew the carrier when he was 6 months) when I carry them out to the car by myself. Once Noah outgrows the carrier which will be soon..I'm wondering how to get them to the car. How do you all do it?
I'm in a building, on the 5th floor, we have an elevator. I generally pop them in the stroller, if in the car seats i snap them in, if the car seats are in the car, i just stick them in the stroller, then either way, put them into the car, fold up the stroller, put it in the back, and i'm on my way. At this point they are just to heavy for me to be regularly carrying both of them in the carriers. Some times, i'll put one in a baby bjorn and the other in an umbrella stroller.
Sarah outgrew her infant carrier at 6 months, Amy at 10. After that, going between the house and the car (or vice versa), I took them one at a time. Our street is very quiet and I had no worries about leaving one in the house while I took the other one to the car, then going back for the second one. To get from the car to daycare, at first I wore Sarah in a Baby Bjorn and carried Amy on my hip. This worked, but was very awkward. Plus I never really liked the Bjorn. So I bought a $12 cheapo stroller at Target, which is what I still use (even though they are both walking now -- it's easier to have one of them confined in the stroller while I put the other in her carseat). And if I had to go anywhere else alone with both of them (the doctor's office, the mall), I took the double umbrella stroller (still do).
I put one in a bjorn or ergo carrier and I carry the other on my hip at the same time. It works really well for us.
One waits in the playpen while I take one out to the car, then I go back for the other. We live at the end of a very quiet road, so no worries there. If the other kids are home, I enlist the help of one of them to carry them out at the same time.
I've carried them both to the car since they were newborns... I usually carry both around the house too. Maybe its me?
I carry them both to the car, put Emma down on the floor of the van(least likely to crawl away!), while I buckle Jake, and then get her in her seat.
One waits in the play yard while I put the other one in the car, then the doors get locked and run, seriously, to get the other one....
I carry both to the van and set Sean (he stays put) in his seat, lean over him and buckle James in then Sean. Dave takes care of Emma when he's home otherwise she walks out with me and crawls in just before I buckle the babies.
I'd leave one sitting just inside the door, take the other one to the car and buckle her in. Then go grab the other one. Now that Lily walks, I carry them both out and Lily stands and plays with some toys in the garage while I put Grace in the car.
I have a few ways depending on what is near the door at the time. This is what I do now at their age. Firstly, I carry both of them down to the landing and put one either in the bumbo (but I have to be fast because they jump out of this one now), or if the stroller is there and open, I put them both in, do up one and pick up the other one again and with the front door always open, bring that one to the car and come back for the other. Sometimes I carry both, one under each arm, opening the door with two fingers, opening the sliding door with two fingers (I'm getting really good at this). We have a mini van with two bucket seats and two sliding doors and the babes seats are one on each side so I stand one up between the seat and my body while I put the other with my two hands in the seat and do them up. Then I carry the other to the other side. For us at 7 months, it was still winter and we didn't use snow suits we had those car seat covers sowe carried them in the car seats to and from the car. Now when I get places I either carry one in the sling, put on my back pack and hold the other baby. Or I take the stroller. Hope this helps!
