I'm curious how you may prepare, cook, and serve fish. We haven't introduced yet and would like to. I have pretty good eaters, but I want to make it as simple (for me) and as nutritous as possible (for them). Thanks in advance for your ideas and recipies.

mine like tuna right out of the can. I am not a fish eater at all, so I dont have a clue how to prepare anything other than tuna or fish sticks :p

We started the girls on Salmon patties at 9 months. It is just cornmeal, egg and canned salmon fried in oil in a skillet. They still love it. They also like white fish lightly battered and fried.

We use canned salmon and fish sticks sometimes -- those require very little work. I've also given them tuna noodle casserole.

As for preparing fish, any recipe I'd eat myself I'll give to them. The only thing I do differently is to pay more attention to whether the fillets I'm buying have any bones. They've eaten fish broiled, baked in a sauce, steamed, fried, and sauteed with curry and vegetables. They haven't met a fish they didn't like.

We just make fish the way we normally would. Sometimes they eat it, sometimes not. They seem to prefer white fish over tuna, salmon, or swordfish. There really is no rhyme or reason to what my kids will eat. Bea actually likes things spicy, so she will eat fish that DH has made with a spicy rub or seasoning. Mostly they will eat fish sticks. I know, not great, but it's something.

We do salmon patties (like the PP mentioned) and my girls love those. And I have some all white meat fish sticks from Costco that they love. Tuna noodle casserole goes over well, especially when it has peas in it. Any other fish I just prepare the same as I do for DH and I.

My husband is a fisherman/lobsterman and just started fishing again after the winter so we've been eating cod and haddock so much. Ritz crackers or golfish crunched up with a little cheddar or shredded cheese, a tiny bit of olive oil or butter on top and they love it!! Just a tip. heat the pan in the over with a little olive oil on the bottom before you put the fish in(5 minutes or so), cooks it nice and evenly

We buy filets. I brush on melted butter and grill it about 6 minutes per side. They have loved it since they first tried it!

My girls have always loved salmon. Baked with some olive oil and maybe some dill on it or other herb. At first we'd mash it up with some baked potato.

Also, tuna salad has always been popular. I did also do salmon cakes similar to above, and salmon from the little pouches sold by the tuna. And of course, fish sticks (if they count as 'fish' ;) ).

They seem to not like the flaky white fishes as much as salmon. I'll have to give them another try.

They do both love shrimp now.

Sweet teriyaki sauce and mash it up with rice and butter. That makes my kids eat it.

When I was pregnant, my doctor gave me a list of all the fish I needed to avoid because of mercury content which was bad during pregnancy. I lost the list. :(

I also want to start giving my babies fish, I think it's very good for them. But I want to find that list again, and figure out which fish to avoid.

Anyone know where a list like that is published?

We just give them fishsticks and this past weekend Connor tasted Tuna for the first time & didn't mind it.

Like a PP said, we're not fish eaters either so that's basically all I offer them!

Mine really like fish. A few favorites are barbequed salmon and lemon pepper tilapia. They also really like it when I make fish cakes. Kind of like crab cakes, but with fish.

I just wanted to ditto checking out the mercury content...some fish like swordfish have enough mercury that adults should only eat it once every 2-3 months.... for little kids a high dose like this could be really, really bad.... If I were a big fish eater, which I'm not (plus it's just not in the budget) I would totally avoid high mercury fish..... Watch out for Tuna!! Some kinds of canned tuna are very high in mercury too.... A very good FYI!!
