How do you disguise vegetables?

It's no big surprise that the boys will not tolerate ANY sort of vegetable. You name it, we tried it. However, they DO eat their veggie purees like it's going out of style, so I suppose it's better than a poke in the eye. Anywho, they can't eat baby food jars going into high school, so I'm wondering what I can do to fancy up vegetables in their foods. I tried peas in mac&cheese before.. it was a miss. I'm not very creative in the food area. Any ideas is mucho appreciated :)

Well, there is that cookbook by Jessica Seinfeld. If you haven't looked at it, it may be helpful to you.

Yep, there are two books -- Sneaky Chef and Deceptively Delicious -- that talk about hiding veggie purees in foods. The former is pretty good, and I have the latter, but haven't used it yet. See if your library has 'em to try out before you buy them!

I am sure you are going to throw :tomato: at me, but I would just keep trying and let them watch you eat them as well. Hiding them will only work for so long and then they will be on to you and not eat the foods that they normally would love.

I've found mine will eat veggie pancakes and veggie burgers, you could try those.

Just wanted to qualify -- I don't think you should stop offering vegetables! We eat a variety of stuff in our household, and the kids are picky one day, and eat everything the next. Toddlers are funny that way.

But meantime, if I can make meatballs with wheat germ and spinach puree in them, and they taste great -- heck yeah, I'm going to choose to go that route. :)

You can try adding them to a sauce or yogurt. You can try serving them with olive oil/spices/ vinegar/salad dreessing/ ketchup/dips. My kids all love frozen peas served frozen. The baby hates green beans when they are warm and will only eat carrots when they are warm. My twins ate green beans dipped in ketchup until they were three (actually, one still did that tonight at age 5). You can also do breads (carrot, zuccini, etc.). How about soup? You can add purees or regualr.
Also, try different methods of cooking. Sometimes the texture can be an issue, so cooking a little more or a little less can make a big difference. My kids all like certain vegetables that are canned, frozen or fresh. Nobody will eat frozen broccoli, but they all love fresh steamed broccoli.

So, experiment with temperature, method of cooking, and fresh/ frozem, ect. are all different ways that we've been successful.

I find the best time to serve fruits and vegetables is when they are hungry, so at the begining of the meal. I know we've all heard it a million times, but keep offering! GOOD LUCK!

Neither of mine have been eating carrots lately and then all of a sudden tonight they are eating potatoes and carrots like they are going out of style. I actually stopped offering them for a while thinking they wouldn't eat them anyway, but realize I need to keep it up and they will eventually start to eat them when I least expect it.
