How do you deal with competition

I am curious if anyone knows of a good book or even personal experiences to help me with trying to get a handle on the competition between my 2 1/2 year old boys. They are really good with other kids and were with eachother until recently. Now the fighting over, Me First has gotten out of control. They will pitch HUGE fits when one doesn't get to do "it" first. It doesn't matter what "it" is turning on the dvd, the tv, getting a book, sitting on my lap, etc. I have tried to encourage taking turns but it doesn't seem to be working.

They can be really mean to eachother and I am not sure what to do.

    Thanks

I might try to use 1-2-3 magic for the situation. If they don't take turns they get timeout and while they are in timeout the other gets to have time with Mommy! I don't really know, but I hope you can find something that works!

Mine are in the "MINE" stage!!! Driving ME NUTS!

Us too, Diane! I also use the 123 Magic to thwart tantrums. Sometimes it works, other times not so much. If they can't come to an agreement over who does what or who goes first, then I just make the decision and we move on.

We used to count to 10 and then say "switch". At first I counted, and then they learned to. They learned also about counting fast and slow, and realized if they counted slow, their brother would also count slow and they got a longer turn, and vice versa.
